Where do you buy them??

I will need one for mine but obviously i will need a new one once a bleeding month with the rate she's growing

So where can i buy cheap ones?

Thanks

I've never rugged any of my foals till now - far more dangerous than being cold. Main problem is that they don't have the strength or weight to break out of a rug if it slips/tangles. However, I have just purchased an Amigo foal rug (very late very tb foal) and I'm pretty impressed. It is highly adjustable to deal with growth and is completely velcro fastened which gives some peace of mind at least. They have obviously thought about it. Doubt I'll use it though tbh.

With adequate forage and shelter, she's better off un-rugged, unless there is a helath problem. Weanlings tend to have the densest of coats, particularly pony foals. Rugging may actually cause problems with overheating and believe it or not something akin to rainscald.

As the others have said, foals are better left un rugged. I have between 4/9 TB foals each year and have never put a rug on any of them. I bought a shires (I think its a shires) one many years ago in case of an ill foal and haven't used it yet,(thank God) its in the attic which is why I cant remember what make it is. It was in a bargin bin in a tack shop for a fiver, as it has a stain on it, or I wouldn't have bought it.:D

i've never rugged a foal either, and hope not to have to this winter. a shelter, lots of adlib forage, and their own perfectly-fitting coat are the best things against the weather... as above, i'd worry sick about the foal getting hooked up or something. my foal's already getting quite a furry coat, at least 3 x as dense as any of the adult horses' at the moment.
