We weaned the foals last Monday. We put the foals in the stable, loaded the mares and sent them off to a friend for most of the winter. Not a neigh or backwards glance from the mares, I think they were fed up with them.
Foals took a couple of days to settle, out in the field the first day, without mums, they spent the whole time looking for them but by the second day had realised they weren't there so settled with talking to the old boy next door (who hates foals).
They are now fully happy without mums and can stay in the stable at night without the top door being closed and this morning had a good gallop about when I was lunging one of the horses and thought it was a great game when I let him go so he could gallop around the school. Foals are in the field next to the school.
Some pics of their second day in the field.
