When i bought my wee mare the guy couldnt tell me when she would foal (she was neglected). Anyway over the last few days shes been off her food etc.

Vet said about 3 weeks ago that he estimates around mid May but could be sooner, it was hard to tell.

She was a bit waxy but has been for about a week.

She hasnt ate her haylage and takes ages to eat her hard feed (teeth are fine).

Shes been standing just looking over her door, foal seems quite active.

Any of these signs show signs of possible foaling soon?

i had a friend who bought a mare who was unknowingly in foal and they knew it could have been by 2 stallions at the yard it came from, a fab one and not so fab one- thankfully - the little filly was a stunner

hope it all goes well and she doesnt keep you waiting too long

hi, sounds like she's not too far off, it isn't unusual for a mare to go off her food a little due to the size of the foal making the whole digestive process uncomfortable. she will start to run some milk from her teats and her bag will be huge, her tail set will drop slightly and herback end either side of her tail will hollow and soften in preparation for labour, good luck with her and remember your vet will not mind answering any questions you may have!

or...........she can completely surprise you with no signs at all and a little bundle waiting for you in the morning! I had one that never showed any of the classic signs and she caught me off guard for all her foals. I suspect my mare now will do the same.

It'll come when it's ready, Good Luck and I hope all goes well.

When my pony foaled the other week; she showed no physical signs except for a tiny crystalling in the morning beforehand. She was never fully bagged up and she didn't wax up.

I watched her for most of that day and I guessed that she may give birth that day, as she was pacing her paddock, she kept doing into the field shelter obviously checking that her pre-chosen birthing place was still fine, and she was restless.

You need to quietly and carefully watch her out in the field to see what sort of things she is doing which are out of character.
