foals navel

Could any one please advice on care of foals navel .Can you use chlorexhedine 2% (requisite purple spray) or would the aerosol purple/blue spray be better please

The foal's navel should be treated asap after birth. Best thing to use is iodine 10% from an agricultural store or the chemist (don't say it's for a horse) or an antibiotic blue spray, Terramycin or Engemycin from the vets.

 

[Spring Feather]

Chlorhexidine at 1/2% is the best solution to use. I'm not able to get that over here readily so I use an iodine tincture of 2%.

I dip in 0.5% chlorhexidine several times daily the first couple of days.
