hi just been looking at coloured baby, he is gorgeous you had lot more luck thank me i use coloured and get self foal

Thanks guys.

mm Thanks, the colour was a bonus, I have always liked a nice coloured but this is the first coloured i've bred (first time i've used a coloured mare or stallion), although I love coloureds i've never forfeit pedigree, conformation and performance to get a certain colour. Vincent II, although young and doesn't have the performance behind him, I loved his pedigree and when I looked at him I thought i'd use this stallion if he was bay and I do occassionally use a young stallion with potential if there is something I like about him. Being abit of a genetic calculator (genetics was the only thing I was any good at in biology at school) I did do the maths once she was infoal on what the chances of which colours i'd get. Although she is bay I know she carries black and Vincent is homozygous black tobiano so it was 25% chance of a bay & white, 25% chance of a black & white, 25% chance of a black and 25% chance of a bay. I was expecting a bay foal from the off that way I delighted with whatever arrived.

Wow I love the coloured. Not that I am bias.
Out of interest are you going to breed from the 22yr old this year?

We plan too, that pic was taken only a few days after foaling, she is looking phemnominal again, back in shape putting on heaps of weight on the grass despite having a foal at foot, the biggest dapples around, she is due in season this week we let her go through foaling heat and didn't inject her back in we decided to wait for her natural season, when she comes in the vet will come and do a work up on her inc pre covering swab etc, if he's happy and the swab is clear she will be covered again and then we have to let nature tell us if she is going to concieve again. She technically took first attempt last year, her first cycle was scrubbed because of some bacteria turning up on her swab so she had antibiotics and bought back into season 10 days later.
I think it is worth the effort, he already has a licensed stallion son and she always seems her happiest with a foal at foot.

Thats the same as our 22yr old mare (pics in gallery) we are going to see if she wants to have another one.

I think breeding with older mares you just have to take them on a case by case basis. I am been very lucky with the pregnancy rates in my older mares (or I just have a fantastic vet! lol! I think I should put my excellent pregnancy rates down to being luckily enough to having one of the best repro vets in the country as my vet

)

We covered the 21yo today sooooooo fingers crossed!

Fingers crossed for you. Our vet is rather good to so hopefully she will get her in foal again but we're not worried if she doesn't take.
