Hi All,

After you valuable brains please!

I may have mentioned it in previous posts:rolleyes: but my new filly has had a touch of Epiphysitis in her hind fetlocks. It was very even on both, no swelling just small hard lumps on either side of fetlocks and a bit sore up hill in the field (although still hooned around like a mad thing!)

I had the vet out when I noticed the soreness 2 weeks ago now and she said all would be fine just stop feeding her completely, restrict her excersize in a small paddock, bring her in at night, let her lose weight and be quite crappy this year and just live off what grass there is and hay.

We have been doing this for 2 weeks now (within days the heat had gone from her joints and now the lumps are getting small and she doesnt seem sore at all!)

My worry is, will she be getting the right vits and mins from mostly hay and a teeny bit of grass a day?? She does have a Bayleys Paddock Lick plus which apparently has all the stuff in she needs but she doesnt lick it much, only occasionally.

I am not allowed to feed her (although I dont feed stud feeds, she was only on Primero Total which is a homeopathic cereal free food at about 12% protein) but:

Is there a supplement with all correct balanced nutrients in for a foal I could maybe give to her with a tiny bit of super local chaff?

Is the lick enough for her without the above?

Having spoken to the vet again she says I can put her in a bit larger area to have a bit more excersize and a little more access to really really short grass so I could give her a very small bit of feed night and morning or just morning and not give her so much hay during the day and monitor her? I am just worried about her vit and min levels going up and down all the time, just want to get it right and stick to it!

Sorry for the stupidly long post, I am a bit neurotic!

Hi Laura,

Thanks for the post, that looks great and sounds perfect for her except the Phosphorous. I have been lead to believe that the ration should be 2 calcium to 1 phosphorous but this is almost the same?

Also, you'd think with such a ridiculously long post I would have gotten everything in but I forgot to say she does have a Himalayan Salt lick in the stable which she LOVES! She always has a go at this as soon as she goes in!

Hi Laura,

Sorry, just spoke to Dodson & Horrell to check about the calcium, they just think the internet is wrong and that it is actually the 14% calcium they say below so perfectly balanced!

It does look like just what I am looking for, will run it by the vet and think I'll be doing it!

Thanks so much! Answered my problem spot on!

Oh thats good Aimee - I was going to suggest calling them as they are a very good company, and if they have done something it is usually for a reason.

Good luck with her - it sounds like you are on the right tracks :D
