ok so i had saddler come back out and hes adjusted the saddle again. went out for a ride today just walk/trot, tiny canter and my horse was foaming at the mouth much more than she usually does. the foam was white and thin layer (bit like lipstick!).

well im wondering if shes foaming more because now saddle has been changed she can work correctly thro her back or is it because saddle is still causing her grief and shes foaming thro pain?
also when i took her saddle off i could feel a ridge under her skin where obviously her saddle had been on her back - thats not right surely?!

The lipstick sounds normal, not sure what you mean about a ridge though? Whereabouts is that?

if you put your fingers to one side of the wither then run your hand back towards the stifle area (diagonally across horses barrel) there is a ridge about 6-7inches down on the diagonal. so would be just behind the flocking where the top of your leg sits

i really hope that makes sense!!!

trying to imagine that and it really sounds like the edge of the flocking making an imprint. Are you using half pad? The flocking may need to settle still or maybe you need more, add another soft numnah/pad perhaps?

One other thing springs to mind and that is dehydration, the skin/tissue depresses and doesn't 'spring' back as quick. Pretty sure this is not the case though and hope it's just a crease created by pressure which will just come back to normal. As long as it's not the tree itself making a dent then it should be fine!!!

If what I;ve said hasn't helped or made sense, I would call the saddler back asap.

.

im sure the crease has been caused by pressure yes, but should there be so much pressure to make a hard ridge like that after one little ride? or is that just a newly flocked saddle for you?

saddles are like cars when they run fine they're great but get a problem and its a pain to fix!

The ridge sounds like its at the edge of the panel.

Foaming at the mouth can be because the bit is pressing on the tongue, preventing swallowing

so what does it mean? saddle too tight or just different to what the muscles got used to when saddle was ill fitting? and needs time for horses muscles and flocking to settle?

Well, it is hard to say as we can't see it, as teddyt said, the panel is probably making your crease. It's either too hard or too soft. I would just call the saddler and describe it to him.

It is strange. I've had loads of saddles and can't say I recall a 'crease'. I see a sweaty, panel shaped sweat patch mostly if we've been working hard with no wierd edges as such.

yes ive never had an 'edge' like this before either :-~ its like if youve taken a heavy shopping bag and carried it further than you would normally and you get those marks on ur hands which go after a while but feel lumpy.

oh poo it doesnt sound good does it?
