FOF Appleby fair...

I know it seems to be a bit of a marmite affair, but after looking at an article with some photos earlier it suddenly occurred to me...who shoes travellers horses? Do they do it theirselves?

I know a farrier who does a lot of gypsys feet. I know this because I asked if he ever cold shoes and he said only really with gypsies does he ever get asked too.

My farrier used to shoe a lot round here till his equipment went missing and stopped going out to them.


He also said quite a few shod their own horses.

They tend to ask for cash up front or not get paid and they take someone to guard the car!! That's direct experience of my old farrier not hearsay or story. Otherwise the car has been stripped and no money for umpteen shoes....

My farrier said he once got asked to trim 30 horses feet nice and short for Appleby . And they said it didn't matter if they went lame cos they would bute them up.
