You have to remember that the calorie count of Alfa A Oil is 12.5 MJDE/kg so it is much higher in calories than most normal chaffs which are usually about 8 MJDE/kg - so the price per calorie is actually quite good. (Plus bag size is 20kg, whereas a lot of cheaper chaffs come in 12.5kg or 15kg bags).
Mollichaff do an oil-enriched alfafa chaff, but bag size is smaller and calorie count lower than Dengie, so debatable whether it actually works out cheaper. (If you can get a local price for it, I have a formula that will work out the actual price per calorie - sad geek that I am!
)
Most chaff types feeds work out more expensive than the equivalent cube-based feed, so if it is alfalfa/oil you are after rather than a chaff, then the suggestion above of alfafa pellets and oil is a good solution.
QR She's actually fed a mix of AA oil and mollichaff showshine as I'm a tight git.
TGM- just found the alfalfa oil- will see if I can find out from my feed man as I'm sure he'll stock it... I'm guessing it will be about £7.50- £8 from what i've found on the internet. Please can I have the geek formula
Want a chaff really as already feeding no.4 and speedibeet, and AA oil worked well last year, just shocked by the price of it!!
watch out for products that are supposedly "cheaper" Dengie pack their AA oil in 20kgs, alot of other companies only do 15kg bags......If you want a cheaper option why not buy a 20kg sack of alfalfa pellets and add your own oil??
prittstick- to keep her from losing condition in winter....
forester- my feed man is usually really really good on his prices, and most likely cheaper than anyone else round here, but will head up to RE to see what theres it.
