..you cry?

I can list:

Black Beauty
International Velvet ("It's the foal, it's the foal"!)
Champions

Books: Bonnie the Pony, Heather, Moorland Mousie and, of course, The Maltese Cat!!

The film Flicka make me cry everytime I watch it. How Sad! :P

There's a lovely book called 'in the presence of horses'. Don't remember who wrote it, and it's not strictly horses, but it's about a woman who works with horses and she gets a job in a private yard, but it's close to where she was brought up, which brings back all her demons. Throughout the story you unfold the details of her past and why she does what she does. At the same time she gets very attached to a young horse. Gets me every time (and I've read it a lot - my fave book)

Seabiscuit

The bits in LOTR when Shadowfax is galloping across the plains and the bit when the Mark of Rohan turn up at Helmsdeep (not really horsey films but hey!) I'm a sucker for the dama!

Hidalgo

There was a film - maybe TV film? About a boy who doesn't speak and there is a bit where his pony is caught in a bog and he sits there in the rain with it's head in his lap. When it's rescued you see him looking out a window as the pony is led past and he says, 'My horse' I bawled..

Well, Black Beauty is unquestionably the MOST tragic of all books/films. They don't have to be tragic to make me cry; I wept like a baby in Hidalgo, Seabiscuit, both Velvets, even Gunpowder (I think that's what Ichabod Crane's horse was called) in Sleepy Hollow made me well up; lovely brave boy!! Then there's The Man from Snowy River (both films) and Dances with Wolves... if it's got a horse in it, I can cry...
There's a reason I tend to avoid horsey films and books!!!

Was that black and white?
Something is stirring deep in the recesses of my mind!!!

PF, forgot about Snowy River. my mother was obsessed with all things Australia for a while and I was forced to watch that over and over and over.....

Oo - that sounds familiar - did it have Mark Lester in it?

Oh god, Black Beauty, International Velvet definitely. Another one, which is not widely known is 'Dark Horses and Black Beauties', which is written by a woman who had ridden as a child and teenager, gave up for lots of different reasons and then returns to riding in her 40s. It explores women's relationship with horses.

.... And 'The Fox in the cupboard', in a similar vein to my last post about a woman who falls in love with hunting in her 40's. Flipping hell, it could have been my autobiography, except she bought a grey and mine is black!

What about the Horse whisperer - i cried at that so much - when he said he reared up to save her... sobbed like a baby...

[/ QUOTE ]

Um - couldn't watch that film either

I cried too much reading the book, especially the accident scene!

Ditto!! I can't read it anymore - I'm not strong enough! Though it's a perfectly understandable reaction to that book and IMO not at all fluff-making...

Oh yes, I remember that! Sorry, No idea what its called though!

Mine would be 'Dances with Wolves' - never watching that again, and a couple of old hunting films - The (Something) Fox (please someone tell me what its called) and another one about two girls who I think work in a hunt yard , maybe Exmoor way, one of them spooks a stag off a cliff and they have to club it to death with a rock
