OK so mate and I went to watch some show jumping at the weekend. Lots of young kiddies really enjoying the day popping over some pretty large jumps...anyhoo, one girl comes in (not the best rider in the world IMO) but gets over the first few jumps then pony refused the planks. Dad (I can only assume it was her father) shouts loudly at said child "hands down and kick" pony refuses twice more. Dad "wait till that f-ing pony gets home, Ill show it how to go over a jump it will get a beating when I get hold of it"!!!! He said this bearing in mind there is an audience and EVERYONE heard him!

So, friend and I decided to watch what happend when pony got back to lorry and yes - he held the pony by the head, reversed backwards and gave the poor pony the biggest and loudest kick in the guts - with his toe - I have ever heard.

Needless to say pony stood there shaking. A verbal slanging match then took place between us and him. He said theres nothing we can do about it unless we got him on camera doing it (which we didnt - ARGH!) and that theres nothing to stop him giving the pony a bullet when it gets home. To which I replied "he would be better off dead than living in hell with you!"

Needless to say we told organisers who have said there has been trouble with this particular person before.

So, my question to you horse loving people is, why wouldnt they ban him, and how do I stop the to$$er from doing it again.

I feel ill writing this all down and it made me cry on the way home from the show just thinking about what that poor pony would endure when he got home...!!!

Sorry for the long post!

As much as I'm not a fan - I would call the RSPCA, as you have clear evidence of abuse.

I would also put huge pressure on the organisors of the show to ban this person in future.

I strongly agree with AmyMay. Can you contact the RSPCA. I wonder how many more beatings this poor pony has suffered.
If only that revolting man could receive the same treatment

I agree with AmyMay. I have not been impressed with the RSPCA in the past but they do have a new law to support them so maybe things will be better now.

Definately pressure the organisers as they have obviously been aware of this before - it really annoys me that show organisers so seldom seem to take action over this sort of thing.

Thanks guys, but I didnt get anything on video - will that matter??

Did anyone else at the show see it happen? The more witnesses there are, the more chance you've got at getting him done.
I think i may have slashed the tyres on his car/lorry and stolen the pony. Then maybe set my uncles on him. Grrrrr, i HATE people like that. I just cant understand why they want horses.

We could have done with you there - force in numbers and all that!! We were thinking about going over to him to confront him even more but then saw he was travelling with quite a crowd of people and didnt want to get beat up!!

Will be calling the organisers and RSPCA today!!

We did think about stealing the pony (and all the others he had stuffed on his tatty looking lorry!!) but theres only so much you can fit in an Astra

No - a verbal report of abuse is enough to instigate an investigation.

I went to watch a friend showjump at a well known place near Guildford. This guy was warming up and his (really sweet looking pony) refused and he belted it with his whip twice (and I mean a good hard hand high in the are whack!). it then went over the jump and I thought that was awful. He then went in to jump it and it refused the first jump and he beat it aggain a few times with his whip. poor thing. I was so upset and I saw him load it into the lorry and he beat the bejesus out of it again. My friends wouldn't let me go and speak to him as they didn't want me to 'create a scene'! I cannot believe this place didn't ban him or something for excessive use of the whip. I find it terrible that it is such a big thing in racing and yet barely noticed in other disciplines. Or is just I haven't seen it before? It makes me sick. If I had been that pony I wouldn't have gone over the bloody jump either!

I just couldn't help myself - horse got kicked so I screamed at him. Everyone must have heard me I was screaming at him but darent get too close just in case we got hurt by him too! Other people just walked by not wanting to get involved - I just couldnt help myself!

If it was an affiliated show, you should report it to the judge or the organiser. If I am judging and suspect someone will go out the ring and beat their horse up I will go out and follow them, or radio the ring steward to do so. Have called several people up and threatened to report them if they are ever caught doing it again. Most are hugely apologetic, but sounds like this guy is a monstor...did you know the name of the people? Not too late to report it.

Not sure what type of show it was??

Ive called the venue and the lady that was working there yesterday isnt there today so Im waiting for the lady thats on today to speak to the owner to see if he got involved.

Dont worry, I wont let this go - Im like a dog with a bone now!

- interesting that MM has some uncles. I wonder how handy they are????

And the poor, poor pony. The abusive cretin has no idea that the pony will only be confused and very frightened

You keep on ighting - for the ponies' sakes and on behalf of us all. New welfare legislation/tightning? We'll see, won't we........

Oh NO You didn't see anything! THATS what they always say and IF caught on camera some worthy will be wheeled out to say Totally out of character. I have seen beaten and kicked and whipped with garden hose. NOTHING IS EVER DONE ABOUT IT. But one day someone will start publishing on YOUTUBE and that might start the ball rolling.Sorry I still feel angry about a lot that I witnessed.

No prob. Name and address please and MollyMurphy and myself will go and sort it! Dont suppose you got his registration number did you?

well done for saying something! That poor pony! Hope he gives the man a good kick if he tries to go near him, preferably in the head! It's so awful that people feel they can't step in without fearing for their own safety, and wee should be able to have total faith in the likes of the RSPCA, they are here to deal with this kind of thing. Hope he gets what's coming to him!

Just don't for the life of me understand why these people have horses. Why not motorbikes or cars or powerboats or ANYTHING else but a living creature. I suppose for some poeple horses are a status thing - "now we've got money we must be seen with horses" sort of thing.

No sadly we didnt, we were assured that the event organisers would deal with it....Im not so sure, but rest assured I will be on this until I feel I have done everything I can!
