For those who didnt read - long story short - Picked up new horse and 10 mins down the road he was on his back after coming over the breast bar and panicking and flipping over onto the floor. Fire service were life savers and 110% professional. Got him home (sedated) and since we have gone through a series of horse whisperers/ IH man and several different methods of transport. I had almost given up, He would load into an equitrek trailer that 1. I couldnt afford and 2. he was a wreck when we attempted to close him in.

Yesterday was last chance saloon! I took the day off to load him into my instructors battered old Leyland - 10 minutes in and he was hopping up the ramp like a pro, after an hour of up and down, closing partitions and slotting him into each space in the lorry, we took him for a drive!

He was brilliant, stood still - stamped a bit to get out on return but then shot straight back on twice more when we got home. I am thrilled, a life changing day for us both. He is a talented man and I cant wait to show him off! Our first outing is 16th for a clear round providing he is sane when we get there :)

Here is a little video and pics :)

Where did you get your new boy from? he is a slightly smaller (and better covered) version of mine! I did a real double take when I saw the video. ISH by chance?

I got him back in April so has taken this long to build up his trust enough to get him on there. He is Polish WB -

But a fatty one ;)

Hi

The exactly the same thing happened to my mare, she loaded straight away and 3 miles down the road ended up stuck on the breast bar and went down with her back end.
She loads ok but flips out while travelling. We had made loads of progress and had her travelling really well, then last year she did similar again ending up with one leg over the partition and had gone down unfortunately haven’t been able to try her again.

Something has just clicked for us in the last few weeks, we have something between us now - I feel it everytime I see him. Can say I have never felt like this with any other horse.

Aw that is so amazing WELL DONE!!!! I was going to say, after all those people that came to help you he did it just for you in the end!!
I think the lorry where he travels sideways is a good idea as in forward facing lorries, backward facing lorries there is always the breast bar in front of them, backwards facing lorries are especially very dangerous for horses who can panick while travelling. At least herringbone well theres no where for him to get stuck really!
Good luck for the show :).

Well done!!! I'm having trailer issues with mine (just done a recent post on it) - any advice would be really gratefully received!!! Mine panics when the ramp goes up and he feels trapped in.

Well he is a lovely boy. Don't knock the "well covered" comment. Mine chose to be very ill and dropped about 1/3 of his weight and muscle. Perfect timing coming into Winter. He isn't exactly skinny but looks more like a TB off the track than a muscled ISH.

I nearly did give up!

I was resigning myself to years of online competitions!! Trust was our major downfall which had to be overcome first. Being tough with him made the sitiuation a LOT worse.

He isnt 100% but he is on the normal horse scale at last!!
Any tips for first outings greatfully received!

:D
