Patches post just made me think about me being a happy hacker in my nearly mid 30's... and what my lovely little ginger pony has done for me... from being just a hack about mum, I have been "persuaded" into letting her take me round a beginners working hunter course (dopey here missed a fence!) and we've done an XC course (and I HATE jumping

) and even a clear round or two at shows.

We did the charity ride, our 200 miles in 6 days, I know Byter did it too but the ginger one was the one who trogged all over in front, on the roads, and didn't turn a hairat anything.

Then this year, we've turned our hooves to endurance riding - on our own, and now even started dressage and won a points trophy - albeit a Riding Club one.

She really is a horse in a lifetime, though a naughty one at times, but I could forgive her anything as she's such a character and so willing to tolerate anything I ever ask her to learn or do, she's even nearly broken to harness - and really doesn't care.

I must have really have been good in a previous life to have bred such a sweetie (unless it was that little deal with the devil that I did...)

I hope I can breed something half as good this time round and I'll be lucky.

So what are the rest of us happyhackers wanting to achieve? Staying happy and hacking about and getting loads of miles under your belt? or trying something new??? You might even enjoy it!

So thats Patches doing endurance and now signing up for clear round? Who next??

I would love to have a go at endurance and maybe a dressage test. But above all just to keep enjoying being with my babe.

Wouldn't mind getting a bit braver and trying some jumping too.....you never know!

Awwww it's amazing what having the right horse can do for you GM.

I know that I will take Patches in the Clear Round myself before the end of Summer. I just know it! I like the idea of it but need to get some more fences up in the field. Only ever popped the odd pole and a course, however small, seems a bit daunting to me at the moment.

Hats off to you though J. You've done brilliantly. I was just thinking about Patches earlier. She might not be everyone's cup of tea, cosmetically speaking, but I wonder how many people would love to have something as honest, geniune and willing as she is in their stables. Wonder if you could breed that trait into any offspring of hers.......

She really is a special little horse as is the ginger one. Give her a stroke on her forehead from me.

ps. Video in the gallery!

Good for you!! Sounds like you have really come on!!

I would hate endurence a lot, and at the best think dressage is ok, but that is the fantastic thing about horses, there is something for everyone!

I tried our hand and hoof at endurance last year and really loved it, we went to some event every week throughout the summer and autumn! We clocked up 210 km distance award and a platimum award from a local pleasure riding group...I was so chuffed...mainly because my horse is not the easiest person at times and people had wrote him off and said I would not achieve anything with him.
I have no desire to do jumping or dressage or shows, I have waited for 13 years to have a horse of my own again and want to do nothing more than enjoy him by riding out in the country all over Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire! I luckily I have the right horse for that because that is all he seems to enjoy too!

Well my riding has been curtailed for months due to back problems. I would like Mo to have a nice foal in June, & for Prince to get to at least 2 shows this year. If I am lucky to be allowed back riding then a pain free time, as I miss the early morning rides in Summer. I would like to see my daughter's hard work pay off this year with some outings on the devil horse. And most of all I would like to see Sas go to a home that can give her the 121 she needs.

Aww congrats, wow you have done loads!!

well I seem to end up with horses that have either done extremely well at dressage or were bred to do extremely well at it, so I think someone is telling me to do some dressage!!

For the summer, taking hubby to some small hunter trials, sponsored rides.
