following my earlier post a while ago, struggling with new loan pony

i have finally ridden her again!
i didnt have time for a week because it was dark when i got there after school!
anyway, rode her in the school yesterday with my friend and her loan pony. we had 3 cones out and a pole between jump wings.. first of all we followed her pony friend over pole and she trotted over it [brought her knees very high up!!] it was very comical, we did a lot of trotting round and she only stopped twice in the.. half an hour we were riding. anyway, did lots of transitions, but no cantering as i dont think she knew what i was asking? she just did fast tro, so any advice for this would be greatly appreciated!! then we went weaving round cones in walk, tried in trot but was a bit too tight as only have small school [partly my fault for putting cones too close!!] and then we put the pole up, so it was on the base of the jump wings, about an inch or 2 from the ground. i know this is only small but, she followed her friend over again, although wouldnt do it on her own.. hoping to ride her on tues again, sorry if ive rambled, but any other advice is appreciated, im proud of her!!

hey,well done,doesn`t matter about not cantering,i think just carry on with what you are doing,seems an inprovement already.
 
thanks CAHILL she canters when we are out and really enjoys it, but just seems to go with a small squeeze and follows her friend!! in the school i wanted to do some cantering so she is doing something more interesting, do you have any ideas how to get her to?

it may be best to ask for canter on the corner just before the long side.(perhaps put a pole on the ground there too)
do you mind me asking if you need canter practice as well as pony?
dont ask for the canter till you have got a good trot going.
 
CAHILL- i dont mind you asking of coursse, but no i dont think i need canter practise! learned it 7 years ago, do it wuite a lot so i know what im doing, its just Zilke who needs practise.. the school is only small though and is square instead of rectangle, so there is no longer sides!!! tried to ask her when the pony in front starts cantering, that doesnt work either!

any other ideas?

cant think of any,except half-halts.
do a half-halt everytime you change gear(up and down)then pony will start to know that you are going to ask something.

Your doing well, i would proberly say pony might be struggling with balance keep on doing what your doing loads of transitions if the school is quite small and s/he has not been doing regular schooling sessions s/he may find it hard..Does s/he canter infront if out hacking? I would also have ago with lungeing lots of transitions on lunge too..Good luck

Timmy 100, she does canter out hacking but doesnt like to go infront, although once she is cantering she will overtake and not stop!!!
completely diffrent to in school,
i did suggest lungeing, to her owner but she sed she doesnt lunge..

There is another task to your list..LOL lungeing is really good so if you could get her lungeing with some help from a friend it will benefit you with her balance, it does sound to me like its a bit difficult for her.. With the cantering out hacking stick to what your doing building her fitness up and she might just surprise you but becarefull with her not stopping hope your breaks are ok xx
