By all accounts I have damaged the ligament in my right knee....

Did it yesterday, thought it would be fine today but nooooooooooooo, can hardly walk! HAD to do the horses though, me sis came to help, they have a 4 x 4 so as well as their 2 horses at mine, she and her fab hubby did all the heavy work for me!

3-4 weeks decent rest....riiiight, that sends Boxing Day hunting out the window then, even when the snow has gone!

I am now eating 'Rainbow Drops' by the bagful to cheer myself up.....

FLIPPIN' SNOW!

So sorry to hear that. Do you have someone who can help you do the horses so you can get some rest? I know how hard it is to sit still if you have horses, but t will help you recover sooner....

Any chance that your doctor can fit a support so that you can still go hunting on Boxing Day, if you are really good and rest until then?

I feel for you. I dislocated my knee on Saturday playing netball so am at home on crutches. I can't even manage to take the dogs out at the moment. Off to a physio tomorrow (weather / minicab permitting.)

I've had ligament damage before and was only off riding for two weeks (that's how long it took me to be able to walk normally :D ) So Boxing Day will be grand!

I'm surprised they've told you to rest it. They usually make you do physio for things like that. You've got off lightly if you get to sit on your bum!

I've done exactly the same thing!! Same knee too. Hurts like hell to begin with. I have been using a neoprene knee support, heat pads, ibuprofen gel etc., and rest when I can. I did it a month ago and its still sore now. Not as bad, I can walk/drive etc, although still have my stirrups 2 holes longer than normal because it hurts when bent more. I was also told to keep up a certain level of light exercise to stop the ligaments from healing too "tight". Was the same for my ankles when I damaged the ligaments in them (I have hyper-mobility so I'm getting used to it lol).

Hope it feels better soon. Don't do too much but light exercise is good. Be careful on the ice and snow though!

The day before NY Eve last year my charming mare knocked me over and I badly twisted my knee. Didn't go to Docs but I imagine it was ligament damage. Swelling was horrendous, couldn't bend it or straighten it properly for months, and I still suffer. When that happened, we had about a foot of snow, and I had to turn my horses out in a field half a mile away. I took a LOT of painkillers, and a knee brace was my life saver. Thinking back I have no idea how I managed! Even if you are recommended physio, that's controlled exercise. Please get help with the horses if you can. Being pushed just a tiny bit can cause it to twist again, especially if you have snow. Don't know about yours, but mine were not completely understanding of my need to walk slow, not do sudden turns or jump about

Good luck with the healing :)

I tore the ligament in my ankle 8 weeks ago.I was getting to the point where i could ride again, then came the ice and snow,so still havent been back on the horse.
Yesterday i slipped over on a patch of ice,now my foot is swollen and bruised again.Luckily my son was off school today because of the snow,so helped me muck out 6 stables this morning, otherwise i would of had to do it all by myself.

Oh I feel your pain - it's dreadful to be parted from them. I managed to get hospitalised on the 23rd Dec two years ago, and one of my horses had to be sent away on full livery until the March time (she'd had an Op and needed lots of rehab work which I just couldn't ask my mother to do as well as our other horse, the dogs, me needing nursing etc). It was actually what I cried about most of all whilst in hospital (more than the pain) because I hated the thought of her being away with someone else. :( :(
