morning all i was just wondering what exactly does a horse do when cribbing? my mare chews wood ALOT i had to paint the fences with crib box paint and havnt seen her do it since. does this class as cribbing? im lucky my YO is very nice and accepts that i am happy to replace all the wood she has munched on! lol

Chewing wood isn't cribbing. Cribbing is where the horse grabs hold of something with their teeth, arches their neck and draw air into their stomachs. It makes quite a characteristic sound, and they can do it on anything, wood, metal gates, ropes, some even do it on other horses.

Windsucking is where the horse can gulp in air without grabbing anything.

She may just chew the wood because she likes to but it may be a sign she is not getting enough food or is missing something from her diet so please look ino this before just criboxing everything!
