What do you think are the most dangerous sports/activities within the horse world??

I’m thinking eventing, hunting and racing are the most dangerous sports and riding on busy roads and handling young/stupid horses is pretty scary too.

Just wondered what others thoughts were on the matter?

anywhere you put a novice with a novice

novice rider on novice horse - accident waiting to happen

novice riders in specific spheres should be on 'knowledgeable' horses if not schoolmasters

experienced riders should bring on young/novice horses

it's the combination of horse+handler+situation that creates a 'danger' and if both horse and handler don't know what they are doing and the 'situation' is unusual/complicated then the risk is MUCH higher.

no - experienced jockey racing is probably no more dangerous than a novice beginner riding a toobig/toofrisky/toounschooled young horse out in a situation where there are 'hazards' to cause napping/spooking/traffic difficulties.

how many of us ride 10 horses a day ? many jockeys do just that so whilst there are falls racing the % of risk is actually lower.

Took out an insurance thingy that my employers were offering and general horse riding accidents are covered but not horse racing as this, according to them, is classed as a danger sport!

Having a farther who used to have a few to many whisky's at the meet - alcohol and any horse is also a very big accident waiting to happen!!

There aren't just falls in racing there are a lots and lots of fall! No matter how experienced you are if your horse doesn't jump high enough over a chase fence and tips up you don’t really have much chance do you! You don’t here of many really serious accidents racing though – not like eventing.

You might not hear about dangerous accidents in racing but they do happen. According to statistics racing is the most dangerous horse sport (for humans and horses). Not sure how other sports rank but I know that for ponies, polo also has very high injury rates.

Telling the Pikeys that they are treating their horses badly by trotting them at "stupid"mph down the main road is quite dangerous!!!!!!

I'd say hacking is the most dangerous! There are road accidents seemingly every single day involving horses and riders. I've had more incidents on the road than anywhere else! I do eventing which I agree is dangerous, but then I think anytime you get on a horse it's a risk. I believe more people are killed in simple schooling accidents at home than actually out competing.
