Dentist refused to do her as she needed sedating (fair enough she is a baby and never been done before, i dont like dentists either....)

Vet came and did her.....said she had lots of sharp teeth, few hooks at back, and wouldve placed her a little younger than 5 as still has baby teeth....fingers crossed for weekend and bridling etc now!

I wanted it to be as nice as possible and i didnt think wrestling with a dentist and rearing and backing off etc was the best way to go, lol x

Captain has to be sedated every time and he is 15! Still if it is the only way,t hen so be it. Hopefully your baby will grow out of it. Everything is scary for them the first time isn't it? Poor baby.

She had a nice warm dinner a couple hours later after having had a nice cuddle in stable and a hour in the paddock alone (while i put the wood burner thing on in tack room and warmed up)

I always book the dentist in the same day as vacs - that way if one of mine needs sedating there is a vet to hand :)

Strangely enough before I saw this thread I just rang the vet this a.m. to have teeth done. One of our horses always has to be sedated to have his teeth rasped, has done since he was a 4 yr old. He is now 14 and at 17.3hh it isn't worth the upset for the horse or the danger for everyone else to keep struggling. Probably just like people some can cope with it and some can't, he's the first horse I've had with this attitude and as otherwise he's fine to deal with we don't even think about it !

I always get them sedated. I don't personally want to wrestle with a horse or a pony. I think if they are sedated the vet or the dentist can do a really thorough job. So the job is safer and done better.

Having my old mare finally done after 6 years. 2 vets and a lot of drugs also a lot patience (big bill but worth every penny). She's booked in for next year with my other 3,who I've always had done by Equine denist, who always said mare ok,even though she was loosing weight. she has been trouble as I've had other equine dentists and they have said same thing, but started loosing top line and quided badly.
So now my vets know her problem they will be better abled to sort her out a lot better and do my other 3 in between. I did think if the vets couldn't do her teeth I'd be ringing meatman. I love this mare but she isn't the easiest animal to own as she also suffers from sweet-itch badly and a few other things as well. But she has also taught me patience big time.:):):):)
