Following on from dog friendly flooring - stairs

Anyone have any ideas what I can use other than carpet. The whole of my house is either laminate or ceramic tiles except for the stairs and landing. I need to replace this soon as is now very worn but I would prefer not to have carpet, the stairs are that horrid echoey wood that you get in a new build so cant leave them bare. Must be dog safe and a mute colour, other than that, open to ideas. Ta x

to be honest we had proper wood stairs in the other house and the dogs were always slipping, probably didn't help with the wooden hallway too - we are just in the process of redoing this house and we will be keeping carpet on the stairs but a expensive wool type so a bit more hardy but stone tiles in the hallway and we have wood grain on the landing.

stairs are a difficult one..............

You can get grippy stuff that you stick on the edge/lip of wooden stairs - not sure where from though. But that might work.
