The board has been rather interesting today!! But reading all the threads has made me wonder how much you believe about the people behind the screen?

I mean, whats to say someone is/or isn't riding at a certain level? (trying NoT to add fuel to the fire).....AND does it really matter? I mean, would people believe it if i said....i was a glamour model for instance? (answers on a psotcard).

Just had me wondering, because after all....we dont really know eachother and yet we are willing to take advice or write people off as a troll....

Well I come on here to meet like minded people, I like to think they are being honest, it would be a terribly sad thing if they wernt, after all there are people from all disciplines, all levels and all interests, I'm sure we all help each other out, and I have met some lovely people in real life from this site.

I think some people fib and most leave things out.
We will often have to tall a "half truth" to keep anon, being completly open sometimes would make it easy to pinpoint who/where you are and although 99% of the people on the web are nice and normal the odd nutter is around.

ETS- I'm sure some people DO pretend to b better riders then they are, no idear why!!
Doesnt matter if you are a happy hacker who plods around the lanes enjoying the view or a serious competiter, there is a place here for everyone.

There are some fabulously talented riders here who never even mention it. Then there are those who shout alot, but never ever post pictures of it... thankfully those members seem to be a rarity nowadays.
I think it could be called 'thou doth proclaim too much'

.

On the whole I tend to believe most people but then I'm a pessimist anyway.

i take people at their word. it soon becomes evident if they are making it up, exaggerating, or just plain lying, i think.
the only exception i can think of its DevilsBitScabious, who is out there without a rope as far as i'm concerned... ! s/he has a very weird take on stuff on here!

I would be stupid to lie about what iv done, or what im doing.
My results are there for everyone to see, and i know a fair few people on this board.
EG when we said we competed in France. The results were on Euro Dressage and the photos i have clearly say Samuar CDI YJ.
I was once accused of being a middle aged man tho, who had changed accounts alot and was trying to hack into someones personal accounts.
Was very odd, especially as the person who accused me of that knows my mother!

I generally go by peoples attitudes in post and their replys, i generally think if people fib they end up getting caught out anyways - the horsey world really aint that big!

pics never hurt tho (mostly cos i like drooling over the pwerty horses tho)

I see it simply as this.

If I told you all I was jumping around badminton, never put a foot wrong, I personally taught Mr. Hester all he knows............

Then when I actually need some help I wouldn't be able to ask, as I am supposedly a great rider, who knows it all.

It doesn't get you anywhere, except for being lonely.

You've only got to try selling or loaning a horse to realise that you are so right about people pretending to be better riders than they are!!!

I think you can spot the bullsh*tters on here pretty quickly, as their fantasies run off with them and trip them up. It's a shame because as you say, there's a place for everyone on here.

I think some people have distorted views on just how good they are on a horse.
They either bum themselves up to be the next great thing, or they say they are so crap they can hardly sit to canter.Either way its usualy the grey area of the truth.
As I don't know anyone on here personaly I try not to make judgements, but that is easy to say, but not to do. Even today I have laughed a great deal at some of the posts on here, some of you lot are just daft, I thought for a while I should feal guilty for finding it so funny, after all I was laughing at others expence, but no most of it was because those folk were talking utter sh*t, and desrrve to have the pi** taken.
Realy a GP section D....please.
Incase you are wondering I too am a dressage super star, why only last week I came last

(prelim 10!)

ha ha absolutely.
i had a girl turn up at my place and ask if she could do some riding for me. i did need someone to ride my coloured cob at the time, so i asked if she was any good. "oh yes, i'm good" she replied. honestly.
he sneezed and she fell off. i kid you not. this horse was the easiest horse ever, and she hit the deck. useless cow.
now i know that if anyone has the stupidity/arrogance to say they're good, they're not!

I just tell the truth, whats the point in lying, unless you have nowt better to do with your life!!

I'm sure people vastly overestimate their riding ability. The woman I share with said she had one "experienced" rider turn up, get on and go in the school.... she couldnt get out of walk.... when asked why she said "the pony at the hacking centre just used to go".... turned out she had been on a week long riding holiday... and hadnt learnt a thing... couldnt even rise to trot......

I tend to believe what people say unless its blatant that they are exaggerating, I would hope my own common sense would stop me advice that was truly ridiculous...

There are people from my RC on here and I have also started meeting lots of you in RL so it would be a bit stupid to make out I was an internationally famous rider. Which I am.

lol

I KNEW if there was one, that someone here would know who the horse was ! However, the rider a) looks older than 15 and b) smaller than 15 stone....
