There are some pretty horrendous lists of injuries on that post!

I wonder if you have thought about giving up horses/riding after these or lost your nerve?

How did you overcome your nerves if you carried on??

After breaking my back I am riding less and less - I am so worried about the risks, can't seem to get past it.

Sadly I have a fair list on that post!

I have always got back up & on. I never had an issue with nerves. I eas riding 8 horses a day & just had to get on with it.
Now I don't ride as much due to work I can feel a tad not un-nerved just a bit iffy! But as soon as I am on & going agin then I'm fine.
The horse I rode on last legal day that fairly injured me by accident! I ended up having to ride himon the first puppy meet! I think themasters were more nervous them me. I just knew that I had to stay calm & chilled on him & not get het up which he can do to you as it makes him worse!
Went into the field down the first hill & he let out a series of big books I sat it & then just patted him!
Some friends say I am fearless more likley tapped in the head or stupid!!
Suppose it has helped because I haven't had a break enforced from an accident (Goes finds the biggest tree to hug!)

I dont do cross country anyomore- just cant bring myself to do it now- now because of my injuries- but as I have become older I am more aware of the potential injuries.

i never posted about the one when i did PC x/c, soxie fell at the water & i came off, she then stood on my chest, doctor said if i had not been wearing my PB her freshly shod hoof would have gone right through me

not done much x/c since then

i always get up & back on as soon as possible & have not lost my confidence really.

When i broke my shoulder my parents decided i should get straight back on pony to make sure i didnt lose my nerve, i was lifted onto her back and held on as i couldnt pull myself up. It worked though, the hospital mucked up the xrays and told me it was only bruised, so next day i went back and was jumping over 3ft fences on her (11.2hh pony)! It wasnt until the day after the hospital rang to inform us that my shoulder was broken and i needed to come back in to get it sorted!!
Anything i lack confidence in has been that way since i can remember, not too affected by my falls, although i do always have a nagging voice at the back of my head telling me what could happen, rarely on the flat though which is where most of my bad falls have happened!!

If I have had a break after injury it has had more to do with recovering from the injury than loss of nerve. However in addition as you get older it seems to take longer to recover from injuries so these days what I do is quite tightly controlled, I don't do jumping any more and never travel any faster than a controlled canter when out hacking

about 8 years ago a my horse tripped while i was schooling and landed on me. I ended up having an operation to have my mashed up spleen removed, but as soon as stiches were removed i was riding again. I was riding before i went back to work ;-) although a was a bit sore for months after.

I haven't fallen off much luckily - tbh got on after my worst one because I didn't know how badly I was injured, looking back at the footage I felt sick

I def think abt the risks more - I've lost the 'bouce back' ability I had in my youth

I think I'm too stupid to get nervous

Have never been nervous, and do find it hard to relate to people that do.... but then I'm an adrenaline junkie and have done sky diving, am a scuba diving instructor and ski waaaay too fast

I don't ride that much any more, but recently got on a couple of very fit eventers and went up the gallops.... I guess it's a lot to do with your personality.

I personally think if something makes you scared/unhappy/nervous, then don't do it... and settle on doing something else you enjoy. IMO it doesn't make you less of a rider if you decide you don't want to jump anymore etc... I think it's far braver to admit you're scared.... if that makes sense?!?

I have a jumping lesson at 8pm tonight so I am NOT opening that post!!! I fell off at my last jumping lesson, yikes. I am more flexible than I was this time last year and I think that helps when you fall off but it's still horrible without the teenage bounce!
