I can dismount from both sides. But I cant mount from both side unless I am mounting from a block. I have, on one occassion only I might add, mounted from the wrong side and ended up sitting facing the tail

Ah Jac, how funny

I can mount and dismount from both sides. Still mounting on the right is never easy, and I do always seem to have that moment of suspension when I might just fall flat on my back!

It's born out of neccesity for me really. From hunting with Amy and being able to get on again if I ended up on the floor for any reason - and not always being able to get on from the left if we were in a tricky space. To now having to clamber on gaites etc. to get on to the bigger horses (17hh) again if I have to dismount whilst out hacking etc.

yes I can do both, but it is a struggle (but that could be because of the size different between me and pickle)

Onto smaller horses its easy

I can do both from the ground. I had to learn at PC for some reason, and it was useful when I did le trec. It's not automatic from the right though.

yes very useful skill esp out hunting but also i have used to totally confuse a sh1t of a horse who wouldn't stand at a gate so i couldn't get on, so did from otherside and complete confused it and won little battle

I always go on principle that ggs have big muscles than us, but we do (or should) have extra brain cells

Yep! Do it all the time. IMO mounting and dismounting from both sides is as important as trotting on both diagonals, cantering on both leads etc and helps prevent one sidedness.

However, its never particularly attractive or agile if Im mounting from the floor regardless of side!

Can only dismount from one side but can do it frontwrds and backwards if that makes any sense (either with my tummy or my back to the horse).
Reckon I could get off the other side but might end up flat on my back on landing

I have only mounted from the wrong side once and that was because of a back-to-front mounting block and it was so strange and very inelegant. Have never tried mounting from the wrong side from the ground.

I mount from the wrong side on one horse as she doesn't like you mounting from the near side and fidgets a lot so I tend to stick to the wrong side - If I mount from the floor though I still try and use the correct side and bizarrely she tends to stand still if mounting from the floor?! Mind you she wouldn't dare move as she would risk losing a good handlful of mane. (Really must stop going that it already looks very uneven).
