Ok, this is what she is currently being ridden in while her mouth heals.I did try an english hackamore on her but she wasn't impressed. This is the one my friend borrowed.Anybody know what type it is and if its fitted correctly? It did drop down a bit at the front but with the sheepskin on it it sits a bit higher.

Not seen one of those before. It looks like the side bits though should be the other way round and then slot in front of a conventional bit - or something similar??

I'm no expert but i used to ride my old mare in a MYLER bit. It looks identical in design, leather colour and how their are no 'pinch points' they are covered in metal barrels.

There are several MYSELF specialists in the UK if you type them in google. They are fab bits, highly reccomend for any horse!!

I ride in a hackamore too...here is a pic of Terry with it, a bit high as shortly after that I dropped it one more hole in the head stall. I think how you have yours and where it is is okay, long as it doesn't pinch off the nose and your not hauling on it, as it does use the nerves on the nose to help stop them.
I really like your hackamore, though I have not seen one like that here in the states. Is there a site to order one of those?

It's a Myler Cavalry hackamore - a western bitless. Designed never to be ridden on an english contact, rather loose touch as in normal western riding. This bitless will cut off the airways when ridden in a tight english contact (as you can see in the picture she is struggling). The noseband is made of bicycle chain covered in leather and the curb strap attaches to only one ring, not linked through both of them.

Western bits and bitless are not designed for english riding, they are designed for the ultra light handed western riding.

Thanks Tia! My friend borrowed it from the person she works for, wonder how she managed to get hold of that!
Oscars mum, soph is normally ridden in a myler but she had the dentist last week and can't have a bit in for 2 weeks hence the hackamore.
