The most embarassing piece of horse equipment thread got me thinking back to the days in the 80's when I used to go to Shareshill Riding School. It was well known in the Staffordshire/Midlands area and had a very loyal following :) Such a shame that it closed down - they don't make them like Shareshill anymore! I think there are houses built on the site now.

I'd love to know if anyone here remembers going there :)

Yes! I did some of my earliest riding there in the early 1970's when visiting my grandparents. I remember some very gentle quiet ponies ideal for small children just learning to ride.
I was in Shareshill recently and the riding school has I think long since gone to make way for housing.

Aah there is someone who remembers! :)

Yes, unfortunately in the late 80s it was forced to close - something to do with some new houses built next door but I never knew the details as I was a mere youngster then, so we had to move our horses to other yards... I looked on Google maps and it looks like the yard and paddocks are houses :( Such a shame but I have lots of happy memories of the place - mostly of me falling off my first pony :D

I rember mad mary and the horrid porta loo toilet and being exciled by the kids as i had my own pony and was invited to go to the "riding school own a pony week" ! and won loads of rossetts - but the most important one was the musical bricks and my pony would stand on the brick for me !

What was the name of the man who used to come up on a night to teach?

I also used to have to hack there up over the top of the motorway and passed hilton park, i once got stopped by the police for speeding as i galloped up the long rising grass verge - but they let me off and gave my pony a mint !

ahh the glory days !

mad Mary rings a bell but i can't remember exactly. I think there was a proper loo when i was there but my memory's rubbish! What year were you there? I used to love the ride over the motorway -the lorry drivers would flash their lights when we waved :)

i went there in early 80's - do you remember the pink windmill? just by old man bailey the farrier - i used to have to ride 3 there on a Saturday and one day i decided to take all 3 together ! down bognop road, down hilton lane...... past adam's skips...... dad soon got a phone call to come and bring the horse box down as i could not control them up the gallop alongside the motorway! - hey ho

I remember the pink windmill, just up the hill from the farrier... I started there in about 1983 and had my pony there in 1984 for a few years until it closed down then I moved further up the village.
