I just thought I would take the time to praise my OH.

He aint perfect by any means but he is pretty neat! He is not at all horsey but loves the fact that I get so much out of my mare and new foal. He has never grudged me spending hours riding, long distance rides, shows, etc. etc. He never grudged the 16 nights I spend sleeping at the stables and then working full time when I was waiting for my foal to arrive.

And today when I got home from work at lunchtime, like many other days in the last three weeks, he tells me he has just been up to check on the foal and reported exactly what she was doing and where all the others were and what they were up to.

So, praise where praise is due!!! I won't now list the not quite so perfect points like not emptying the dishwasher, not taking his washing downstairs, not getting washing in, not sweeping th...... ...................... .................. .............

Awwe.. how sweet.. My OH does that too sometimes, one day he mucked out did the hay etc then went and poo picked all with out being asked.. YO was as shocked as I was.. Its just lovelly when they do stuff like that.. I just don't know how to return the favour.. ideas??

To be fair, will praise OH too where it is due...

When we lost one of our foals this season he was fantastic. Got out of bed at 5am to come and try to revive foalie with me, sacraficed his duvet to wrap baby up in, and waited in driveway to grab vet and show exactly what stable we were in. Sat with foalie head on his lap when vet said there was no hope, and helped me move foalie and mum to go and meet mum's new foster foal. Did not complain once during the whole process, and arranged everything for foalie's body.

So yes, he can be a sh*t but he can also be incredibly caring. I know I moan about the transport/show issue, but he has helped me out a lot with my gang as well, and perhaps I was being a bit too hard on him.

lol, I just read your original post - sorry didn't read any replies to your post - and found it so amazing that I read it to my husband. His response was "That guy ought to be getting dumped"

Glad to read that the guy isn't all bad

Mine can be up and down, never charges me though and actually bought me my trailer for valentines day. Some days he will stay up at the yard most of the day without whinging and others he wants to go up, feed and leave. We jointly own a horse and though he'll do anything for her he can be a bit lazy with the ridden side. I could drive my trailer but I have yet to try to and my OH has tried the "If you don't do X then I might not drive your trailer for you anymore" but I just gave him the evil eyes

Snap WeeBrown! My OH bought me my trailer for Valentine's day too. He drives me and my daughter to shows every few weeks and never complains. He also cleans out the trailer afterwards without being asked.

Today he has been up to watch me school Nelly and he's come to watch my last two lessons too because he likes to see us improving. He isn't a saint but he does do an awful lot for me and I know that I am lucky because none of my friends' OHs even come up to the yard.

My hubby bought me my trailer for my Birthday!!!! My licence does let me tow but I'm not confident enough yet to do it on my own. He never complains about the amount of time I spend down the yard, always asks how she is, and even suggests that we take her out for a trotsky somewhere.

I know that I'm very lucky but then again so is he!!!

I'm one of the lucky ones too, I think.

My husband is not at all horsey. His daughters used to have ponies/horses, and he liked them, but never really got involved, apart from paying for everything, of course.

But he was totally supportive about me buying Tobago, and is very sweet about driving me to visit him (I can't drive). A flighty 2yo Arab colt was probably not the easiest introduction to horses for a complete novice, but he soon learnt to be calm around him, not make sudden gestures, etc.

I remember one day he came running up to me saying "Kate! I fed a carrot to Tobago and he didn't spook!"

His eyes start to glaze over after more than about 5 minutes of horsey talk, so I try not to bore him with this too often. (I come on here and bore you lot instead LOL!)

But he will drive me to the stud, say hello to Tobago and give him a neck-scratch, then go and sit in the car reading a book for as long as I wish to spend playing with my horse.

Fortunately, my horse is on full livery, so I don't have to ask hubby to help with any chores or anything. I suppose I don't ask very much of him really, compared to some other OHs on here, just the occasional lift to the yard and putting up with my Tobago-obsession - oh, and never complaining about the amount of money I spend on him!!

My OH (Trows) is great with the horses - he will do them for me if I'm not well or away...including soaking hay, making up feeds, grooming mud off, changing rugs, poo picking - the works.
He half shares one of them with me - and was great when his one colicked last year - he did the night check on her every night for about 2 months without fail.
