Following on from on from gadgets post... thoughts on this thing?!

i like the look of it a lot more than any other gadget, but i still don't think there's any substitute for being patiently taught how to teach the horse to drop the poll, to give willingly to the hand and the leg, etc, and how to attain self-carriage.
when schooling, i can work on myself AND the horse the whole time. i can also build up the horse's confidence in me, my reactions, my hands, my legs... we can learn about each other all the time. lungeing, i can't. seems like a no-brainer to me!

been reading that sustainable dressage site but it's about as clear as mud! The more I read HHO the more I appreciate how deficient my dressage education has been...

thank you... I bought him in 2005 as a green five year old, and took him up to intermediate novice. He was a cracking jumper and went from intro to novice in 3 months but he was very difficult on the flat. I ended up selling him last summer as I was getting married and it was all too much; sadly he developed chronic back problems with his new owner and had to be put down earlier this year - very sad as he had tons of potential

I just really feel sorry for these poor animals when people stick them in gadgets! It makes my neck hurt just looking at them with their heads tied down.
I have a tense mare and i know the only way to get her 2 chill and lower is through riding with seat and legs and little hand WOULD never stick her in gadgets(tho i do have harbridge, which is just like an elastic running m.gale),this only gets used when shes on her toes,im trying not to use it now after reading this!

Thats so sad. At leaset you got to have fun with him. I lost three eventers in one year all un related problems but very very sad.
I do love greys! Do you still event?

That's awful, poor you! I suppose I was lucky he never had these problems when I had him, although looking back I do wonder if his being difficult was in any way related to his back. I really wish I had had him checked out, it might have made all the difference - hindsight is a wonderful thing

Yes I still event, have a little bay mare (the other horse in my siggie) - she is 5 and still very immature so we have just done a few intro and pre-novice so far. If only I could improve my riding I think she could be really good
