Following on from other thread, those with shires or shire x

I don't think you can generalise. Mine is slightly aloof and takes a while to trust or like new people. She is gentle and careful but has strong opinions and will make her feelings known both on the ground and ridden. She can be very stubborn when ridden, a novice can hop on her and she will just get on with things for them, if she thinks that you need testing then she will be as bloody minded as she can. She has been ridden by two 4* riders and has been awkward for them both. She is a very genuine horse.

Her full brother is apparently a complete git!

Kind, honest, gentle, bombproof, wants to please at all times, knows his stuff and his riders. He is calm and quiet with novices, but has plenty of oomph, for better riders, and he knows which is which.

Mine is very loving ('grooms' me daily!!), switched on and although not the speediest horse on the block will happily keep going all day and do exactly what she is asked without question.

where do I start? lol Gentle giant, kind, honest, loves everyone, perfect beginners horse but when ridden by more experienced riders he occasionly takes off with you!! likes to watch everything around him then spooks cos he weren't looking ahead!

Exactly the same. LOL very vocal also, esp when its feed time.

bomb proof as long as it doesnt involve, steam trains, brass bands or minature white ponies.
Quirky and testing, as long as he knows his bounderies hes well behaved.
Loyal, he would follow my OH anywhere.
Very easily offended :D
Absolutly loves kids, and is extra gentle with them, and will lower his head so he can see them eye to eye.
Although he is very forward going, he sometimes decides he is having a go slow day, and there is'nt much you can do about it.
Likes routine, and gets worried by to much change, so he proved not the best horse to do weddings with .

My husband used to have a Shire x ID. Opinionated, bargy, rude, ignorant, awkward (when he arrived - sorted most of his undesirable traits out other than the opinionated awkwardness - he was a stubborn old git but we bought him as a 19-20 yr old!), but safe as houses, responsive, fast, incredibly strong, occasionally sharp. He was a beautiful chocolate dun and I wish we'd found him as a 10 year old! :)

I am lucky to own the most laid back loving mini shire x standing at only 13.2hh and at 3yrs is an absolute angel to ride, my 5 yrs son and him are best buds. But like my son a little scamp :)
