Sadly it seems that the best idea with my little patterdale is to re-home her. How on earth do I go about this? The consensus is that she would be better suited to a working home as she is obviously not settling with us

I do feel for you, because you have tried so hard to give that little dog a better life than she previously had, but sometimes dogs are ungrateful little critters! You could ask your vet (ours has a file of dogs looking for homes), or a local rehoming centre. I would be wary of advertising privately given her problems. At a rehoming centre she will be professionally assessed and rehomed according to her needs. Don't feel a failure because of this; some dogs just don't respond to training, and there is no point in having a dog if it doesn't make you happy. It has to be a mutually beneficial relationship, otherwise where's the point? I hope your original dog soon settles back into being a housetrained pleasure to own. Good luck!

Thanks for your support on this. I think I needed to have a good think about things, but I know that she's not as happy as she could be therefor neither am I. I do feel like I have failed her a bit but I do give a lot and not really expect much back just a few manners and respect of boundaries. I know a few people in the local hunting and shooting community so will ask about if anyone would be looking for a ratter to train. Sooty - thank you for you advice, sometimes the truth hurts a bit but you have given me excellant advice. xx

I wish I could find room for your little Patterdale, we have 2 and they are really lovely little dogs.
I can imagine how hard it would be to part with her........I will work on my OH!!!!
Good Luck.
