with buckers you find out why they are bucking ie, sore back etc..
or if its just naughtiness ride through it if you love the horse enough!!!
the 17hh i used to ride used to be an angel then he went sour to schooling, he would see me raise my hand to tap him with the whip and he would buck and they were corkscrew bucks!! so my instructer gave me a ''whip whop'' to use and he stopped but he was a [****] on hacks, he napped in front and bucked behind!!! couldn't bloody win!!!
then i got sick of riding out the bucks and spending all my money on somebody elses horse and bought my own boy last year!!! its a lot less hassle having youre own!!!
Well, you could call Bean both, though she hardly does either to be fair to her. She went through a phase of bucking, but that was due to her being in the stable 24/7 and she hated it and had loads of energy. I came of the first time she did it and then managed to sit out the rest! She has bucked once since her phase and that was just out of high spirits so I don't mind at all!! (and it was only little)
She went through a phase of rearing, but she hasn't done in a while now. I just try and sit still and lean forward if they are big and if the are little, she gets a whack if I've got a stick with me. She does it when she is under pressure, so I generally know how to avoid them now
Jake would fly-buck when cantering in company particularly when another horse tried to overtake - solution: Jake always went in the lead and other horses kept well behind!!
rearer - he panicks with being pushed 2 far 2 young, so i just sit and wait for his panic attack to finish, usually a mini rear, bigger rear, bigish rear then a little rear then he's ok again (he did used to run away after rearing expecting a beating). I've never hit him for it nor patted him (cause he'd take that as praise) I just sit and wait then carry on. But he hasn't gone up for ages now, think it's all behind us. fingers x'ed.
my mare can be quite nappy so i always make sure i ride her postively forward, especially if she sees something scary! she won't suddenly stop and rear, but if i let her stop she'll decide she won't want to go forwards again. a smack down the shoulder usually sorts that out thouhg!
Ice broncked anytime anyone sat on her, solution-stayed as in-hand pony all her life!
Blossom Reared when being brought back into work after broken hip, but was def. not pain, she had had years off- solution push her foward and do more technical stuff.
Pip Bucked when being broken, and when being schooled, solution drive him with a kicking strap alot.
Ginga does small bucks in canter, solution have a deep seat
Ajay bucks cantering in company, solution have a deep seat and ignor it, esp. infront of judges.
Wally occasionaly bucked in schooling, but was not a major problem, Loki broked, got vet to look at her and she had a brain tumour and had to be Pts
Bert fly bucks in canter when in company sometimes and also if he is having a temper tantrum he does mini bounces and bucks. He has only ever out in 2 big bucks and I stayed on with more luck than judgement.
This is not every day or even frequent behaviour and is only through excitement or frustration.
I couldn't deal with a rearer of a malicious (sp) bucker.....
Ben bucks if he gets really excitable in canter but it dont happen often, It did happen the other day when I was cantering behind someone bareback lol I think he thought he was free. My friends horse who I ride is a crazy bucker who I am proud to say have only come off once. I tend to hold on for dear life.

Ditto this - my horse was doing a similar thing a few months ago. I found the best way to deal with it was to just sit it out and insist he faced the direction I wanted to go in and put my leg on. After a few seconds he would go forwards having forgotten all about it. He still tries it on ocasionally but I can deal with it in a matter of seconds now, without it resulting in a rear.
My 4 yo has a sort of temper tantrum every now and again which comes out in stroppy bucking. Usually ride through it although standing up helps to keep me on her back.
She also rears sometimes when out on a hack and spooked - it's an evasion of going forward.
Sometimes she does both (!) a bit like a four year old child throwing himself on the floor in the supermarket!
Finnie- Shes a bit of a napper and bucks when i smack her but nothing major, so i just ride her through it.
I hate it when she rears she does it out of nappiness, but smacking her doesnt work so i just have to sit tight and like wiht the bucks, push her on through it.
my lad bucks in canter occasionally when hes been schooled as he finds it difficult, its just his way of saying ive had enough!! i usually end up laughing tbh!
