Was thinking of asking Rhino v Amigo but thanks to the post below I decided Rhino BUT have seen the Shires Tempest (combo) and am tempted. Its a 1680 denier, cheaper, what do you think?
The Horseware rugs fit my boy brill but hes a field player and usually has Rambos for strength but cant stretch to a new one of them at the mo :(
How do the Shires fit in comparison to the Horseware rugs. My Horse is between sizes
Thanks

Haven't seen the post below, but I really rate Amigo (for the price). You can pick them up for 30-40 quid on the internet and I opt for them for mine because he is very narrow. He came with a weatherbeeta but that's far too generous around the chest.

I would say the Shires compare more to the Amigos than the Rhinos. Rhinos were always a nice strong rug (don't know if they still are), and Shires are slightly less robust.

Mare is in the Shires 180g with neck this winter, and doing really well - my big lad is a bottom biter, and the mare's rugs tend to get wee tears over the rump where he has taken a mouthful and hung on  So far, so good for the Shires - no tears at all, so it's standing up well to abuse :)

I also know that big horse destroyed an Amigo LW in 24 hours a couple of years back, but his Shires are still going strong.

From a recent thread, though - measure carefully, as the Shires seem to come up a bit smaller than the Horseware.

If you have a rug wrecker, look at the shires stormcheeta (I think this is the one) but its 2000d and so far has withstood being bitten by a naughty pony friend on a daily basis.

Mines a super heavyweight though, and not sure if they do this rug in a lighter weight, but my boy is a wuss.

Thanks :)
Ordering online is such a pain when things as big as rugs dont fit, costs a fortune to send back, otherwise I'd take a chance with the Shires.

My boy is IDx so Im surprised the Horseware fit so well and I have seen a Rhino HW with neck at a reasonable price. His new friend likes necks! and his other Rhino is starting to snag from his bites, the Rambo version is unmarked.

Ive never tried the Amigo, so not sure of the fit but he is deep at his chest which is why I was concerned about the Shires.

Its annoying as he has a lovely new this year Rambo with neck but the binding near the withers is digging in, hence looking at a replacement :(

My boys an IDxTB and he's in the shires, he has Rambos that seem to fit fairly well. The shires are roomier at the front than the Rambos in my experience. But then again the Rambo he came with is only a 6'9 and he usually takes 7 (he has another horseware that's 7ft and seems to fit well) so may account for it being so snug.

17hh, big neck and chest, and takes a 6'9" Premier Equine. The horse who destroyed an Amigo in 24 hours (I mean, destroyed beyond the point of repair - I found it in a mud patch, with one surcingle and two chest straps ripped right off).

This was his new 7' Shires Tempest lite.

This was over two years ago, and he's still wearing it (today, in fact) and it's still waterproof. So they do suit big broad horses - and he doesn't get shoulder rubs in it, nor does it affect his mane. I also happen to think it suits him :p

ETA - I still have the receipt, it cost £31.50 including delivery. Best value rug I ever bought!

Ooooh thanks.
Premier Equine wont go near him round the neck???
He has both 6'6 and 6'9 in Horseware, the 6'9 Rhinos seem a bit roomy for some reason. I reckon hes a 6'7 and a half lol.
Im sure I tried my last horses Shires Highlander on him in a 6'6 and it wouldnt fasten round the neck but we are talking nearly 10 years ago so I cant remember.
Eeeeek what to do :confused::confused::confused:
Shires Tempest 300 combo (but with the stronger outer 1680 I think) for £85 in a 6'9 or Rhino with detatchable neck which I know will fit for £120.

I would get the Rhino without doubt if it wasnt for the love bites from his mate :)
