I'm thinking of sending my horse to a RS for schooling (don't all go mental straight away...it's a good school!). I go there for lessons and the horses are really good. My boy is being a pain in the @rse at the mo and I think it's because he's not doing enough work. I ride for about 40mins 4 times a week if Im lucky at the mo and as he's coming back into work he's not really in the swing of things.

I was thinking of sending him there for schooling from the better instructors and the owner who is G3 dressage rider. I thought I could have some lessons on him while he was there and maybe let some advanced clients ride him. I would have him on DIY as the yard is on my way to work and he would get turn out but be in at night.

What do you think? Does anyone have any experience of this sort of thing?

Im thinking of doing the same thing when I go to Australlia for a 6months.
Its a good riding school with qualitly instructors

I work there on a sunday so now the ins and outs of the place

All the horses are happy and healthy.

So IMO sending to a good riding school is not a problem.

In your case, as your not actually going away, it could be a better idea to find a proper trainer to school your horse, and send him away to a proffessional yard, that way he is more likely to get one to one attention.
Would he be on working livery and the riding school (ie would they use him in their lessons) If that is you plan, many RS will only take on well behaved horses due to insurance issues ect.

Hope all goes well whatever you decide

Thanks for replying. He wouldn't be on working livery but would be being trianed by the YO or best instructors on DIY livery. If he starts to behave himself then I would consider letting them use him for advanced lessons, though. I thought about finding a trainer, but I am a bit worried about the methods people use. In this scenario I would be visiting every day, riding him myself (having lessons) and I know the people who would be schooling him. They aren't likely to be yanking him in the mouth or beating him up, which is what worries me about a trainer I don't know.

Arrghh! I don't know what to do!

A woman sent her pony to the RS I go to and he couldn't jump or get the right canter lead when he came. He's been at the stables for a year now and he can clear 2 foot with ease and has the perfect canter. He's on permenant loan there now because he's such a fantastic pony.

IMO sending a pony to a RS teaches them to handle situations like being ridden in a group and cantering to the back of the ride without being silly ect.

Also, this would get your horse used to being ridden by many different people.

Sounds good and situations like that provide me with the horses that I have my lessons on

Find a good RS and it can work very well
