....what is the most effective hi-viz to put on your horse? I always wear a tabard on me but some of the posts on the previous thread got me thinking what if horse heads home alone (although usually she stands there looking at me in a vaguely puzzled way as if she can't understand how the full-on bronco act resulted in me on the floor )

I do have a set of legwraps but I rarely use them because I can't get them on at the same time as brushing boots and I use a yellow exercise blanket in winter.

I guess my thinking is that something at car driver height will be more effective but would be interested in your opinions.......

I have a reflective sheet that I use for hacking- it is really thin and mesh so can use it when it's hot too- have had long speedy hacks and he hasn't sweated under it yet
Think in winter once he's clipped I will put it over another one.
I have some leg wraps that seem to go over my brushing boots? Think they are Shires, maybe...?

mollya - where did you get the mesh sheet? I've never seen one of those.

Hi, I use the leg wraps, tail guard and on the front a hi-vis martingale all the time but must admit i only use the exercise sheet in the winter.
I wear a reversible fleecy jacket that is hi-vis with triangle on the back on one side and for mooching around the yard i turn it inside out and it's just plain black. I also have a band around my hat.

My insurance states that there must be a minimum of 2 pieces of Hi-vis worn by both the horse and rider.

However i would wear it anyway.

I also have a tag on my saddle and bridle which i got engraved at Pets At Home for a couple of quid that has my name and 2 phone numbers on which hopefully would help anyone who found my horse, call someone.

I'm sure there are loads of things you can do and wear and I'm sure the hi-vis manufactures rub their hands at posts like these!!!

I'm personally of the opinion that you can never have too much

But I'm sure I've seen a few studies that concluded that the most effective thing to do in order to increase visibility for drivers was to put hi viz on a moving part of the horse (i.e. leg wraps). Perhaps someone will have a link? Obviously I think they should be worn in conjunction with other items.

I wear a tabard which has flashing led lights on it (well they flash when i turn them on!), and horse wears reflective boots. Need to get an exercies sheet too...

I was told that leg wraps are the best thing if you are only using one item, if you only have one pair you're supposed to use them on the legs nearest the traffic, so one on the off fore and one on the off hind.

Love the idea about the tags, on all occasions when I have fallen off when out, horse has run off!

I have these florescent brushing boots - they have a lot of yellow and are very visible IMO.

For anyone who prefers to hack out in boots rather than just leg bands.

Leg wraps are brilliant, the first thing that motorists notice with horses/cyclists are the legs/wheels as they are in motion.

A hat band is good as it is something up high so can be seen from further away/over bends etc.

They are adjustable enough to put straight on the legs or over brushing boots. The whole thing is retro reflective not just pink coloured.

The exercise sheet is a no no for us, he really objected to it, so in addition to my jacket, I'm getting the leg wraps, I also like the look of the martingale and tail guard.

I have a mesh sheet too, it's brilliant, esp for keeping pesky flies away
