A couple of people mentioned alarmed padlocks. I never even knew there was such a thing! My question is, how loud are the alarms?
I live onsite, my front door is probably between 50-80ft from the tackroom. Our bedroom is at the back of the house though, which is what worries me. I usually hear when a vehicle comes down our driveway as it has a gravel section onto the yard which is quite noisy, but this is usually when i'm sleeping light (or OH is keeping me awake with his snoring!)

Looking to replace our tackroom padlock, and prices for alarmed padlocks are pretty reasonable as I was expecting them to be ridiculous. So how loud are they? Am I likely to hear it at the back of the house in the dead of night? and are they easy to use (won't go off all the time when liveries are trying to open/close it)?

Also, if you have tack microchipped, would signs displayed stating the fact (not directly outside the tackroom and potentially giving theives an exact location to break into, but displayed around the yard) put thieves off, or do you think they'd go ahead on the offchance? Its the whole 'visual detterent' idea, its great having your tack microchipped so that it might get returned to you, but how many people check to see if a 2nd hand saddle is microchipped when they buy it?

Had a bit of a strange incident the other day which has put me on high alert and made me rethink alot of things on my yard. What do you guys think?
