The humane destruction thread got me thinking that although I have my vets number on my phone, I don't have the local hunt kennels or knackerman on it.

So do you? I know it might be morbid, but I suddenly thought, if for what ever reason my vet couldn't get to me in a pts emergency, it would be useful to know I had a back up plan so to speak

Sorry for odd post, I have insomnia tonight :(

I just have the vet, but I have two vets' mobile numbers as well as the practice and my yard owner has the knackerman so I should be alright. If YO wasn't home or I was on a hack or something I would call YO's daughter who would have knackerman's number if I couldn't get any of the vets to answer in some dire emergency.

In my phone

not morbid-just practical.:(

This is right. When one of my dogs got hurt very badly once and we had to put her to sleep (not in this country, in Africa) there was no vet because that's not how things are there. Nothing like that had ever happened to us before and we just hadn't even thought about it or planned what we would do. So the poor dog suffered for several hours while we scrambled around trying to figure out how to PTS a dog humanely and summon up the courage to do it. It was absolutely horrific.
At least I know that if my horse has an accident I have planned who I will call and what I want to happen, and what plan B and plan C are. Everyone involved in her care (especially if I go away) knows what I would want so that if it happens (which will hopefully not be for a good many years yet) it will be much less stressful and we will avoid a repeat of what happened when Lola died.
