when did you last do something with your horse because you could? Not because you needed to or had to?
Like going for a blast down the beach for fun, not fittening?

I think there should be a new rule - everyone who can't think of something, has to go out and do something for fun, then come back and post about it

I always go to the beach for a blast and not for fittening - if he gets fit by doing it it's an added bonus! Not long come back from the best weekend at the Gower with my horse - sleeping in the trailer barbecued bacon sarnies for breakfast. Wonderful!

Ginga is a just because pony

But the section B's I make sure have a fun day a week, jumping, hacking or games, and Pip gets regular hacking, but I think the fact I have a stopwatch and heartrate monitor its more marathon practise, but thats fun

Hhhmmm! I am going to have a think - and I am going to do something fun tomorrow, maybe I have forgotten I am supposed to be having fun .. need to go to the beach again and get wet!

I quite often just got and sit in their field and read a bok or something. Pony is a bit rubbish but the horse will come and rest her head on top of mine

Mostly everything I do with them is for fun - there is very little I don't like about horse ownership, even poopicking the fields

Hm. This post has made me think....

I didn't read the other thread - I remember horses were fun and were my life, now I'm not so sure. I think I'm missing something fundamental somewhere.

*wanders off to contemplate*

Having given up horses for ten long years, and now well and truly of adult *age*, I frequently revert to kid-ism and do stuff just cos it's FUN. I am perhaps more careful and cautious, for both myself and my horse. But each and everything I do with the horse is because to me it IS fun, and it is enjoyable. Okay, I admit, I rather like mucking out, making up a nice bed. I like making up feeds. I don't love doing haynets, but it's part of the fixing-and-doing that I enjoy. We often go for a blast because it's fun, I enjoy working on building topline, getting a better moving horse, love getting shouted at during lessons....

Give it up for ten years and you find that you don't take for granted stuff you might if you don't....if that makes sense?

When I had my old horse (before he was pts) I occasionally used to get on his back when I went to catch him and canter him back to the gate with just his headcollar on. I used to do this all the time when I was a kid. He was 16.2hh so I had to be near a gate to do it otherwise I couldn't get on.
I'd love to do this with my youngster but I daren't yet as she's only 3.

Poppymoo - stubble fields are one of my favourite things too but we just don't seem to have them for any length of time any more. The fields seem to be ploughed almost as soon as they've harvested these days - such a shame!
