I worried about my lad to start with(tb),however neednt have he looked too well coming out of winter, lol!!Recently moved yards and he comes in at night, lost alot of weight!!(i would rather have left him out,but the fields are not very big and all his pals come in at night,so as get cold and wet eating hay in the field he may as well come in and be dry eating hay, lol)Mind the yo changed his diet, dosnt suit him and i know him better than anyone so he is now back on what i have fed him for the past 9 years!!!

Mine prefer living out and keep their weight better it seems. Frosty cold weather like this doesn't bother them at all. It's the wet and wind that does.

Thing is, surely icicles, etc is a GOOD sign - i.e. how well insulating their coats are? I used to worry about the little ones having snow lying on their backs, then realised how good their coats were at keeping the heat in and the cold out. Up to a point obviously...but I doubt we would ever see weather they can't stand in this country.

ours come in if they look cold, although we have an arab who we rescued 5 yrs ago and is still terrified of stables, so she currently has ALL (yes ALL) her rugs on so about 5? 1 lightweight turnout, one mediumweight turnout with neck, 3 stabl rugs and i think thats it....

the ponies go in the communal barn, theres about 5 ponie in there and most are clipped yet they need no rugs as it gets so hot in there!

I used to worry about my mare as she lived out at our old yard. One day I went down and she was happily playing in a puddle of freezing cold water and was perfectly warm so I didn't worry quite so much
