I rarely trot on the roads at all nevermind down hill - my horse is a bit fragile. But I quite happily trot/canter down hills in fields, at shows and out hunting

He's got really upright pedal bones so hes really susceptible to concussion injuries, I'm being extra careful at the mo cos hes just had 4 months off because of concussion injuries due to the hard ground. But hes fine to trot or canter as long as the grounds got some give in it as this takes the impact away, and hopefully, when I'm not so paranoid I'll start trotting on the roads again!

I trot (or canter) down hill at every opportunity, can't be doing with walking anywhere really. We only have front shoes on the nags tho' so I think they have more grip on the roads, and we do have road studs in front all the year round so there is no real slip
