Was just wondering what everyone does with their horses on Christmas Day in a tad more detail than covered in other posts. For me the horses stll get a minimum of 8 hours out - it's a day as usual right down to the welsh one being exercised normally, they just get extras in their feed and a stocking.

However I know of some people who will go and just throw hay over the door, check water, and then that's it until Boxing Day.

So... what do you do? :D

(I'm not going to judge anyone, we all have our different routines/rituals and each to their own! I'm just curious!)

There is no working on the yard so I am normally up to turn out at abotu 6.30 am then off to my parents asap as I have a little sis so have to be there for pressie opening :D I then normally shoot off again about 10.30 am to muck out/yard jobs etc possibly a little ride but we are still very icy . Then back again about 5 pm to put in. Peetty normal day tbh

mine live out 24/7 so xmas day same as any other.go down, feed, hay, break ice in water, check over, adjust rugs and thats it until next day.
got neighbours with my number who if they are concerned about them will call me.

Mine are all done as a usual day, crimbo dinner is cooked by my sister, so just have my dinner after doing the yard for the day.
I love the horses and dont really care about christmas so i still spend the day at the yard, the horses not know its christmas so not going to leave them stuck in with dirty beds

mines out on full grass livery so will be fed for me as YO up there to do her horses and full liveries as normal. But I will go up there and brush her and put on her new rug (shh don't tell her!). Would normally ride but we've still got snow on the ground.

I stick to my current routine as he is currently on box rest.

6.30 ish muck out, hay ,water, feed, hand graze until i'm too cold to move!!

Then we will visit family, then back home to cook dinner. Whilst dinner cooking will pop out and check him, skip out.

4pm muck out, hay, water, feed, walk for 20 mins followed by hand grazing.

Ours are on part livery so will be done for us as usual, then we will probably visit later and hopefully turn them out in the school for a bit.

Usually i head to the yard at 11ish (we have a feeding rota so breaky is fed at 7). Lunge for 30mins, muck out and feed lunch. And a friend usually feeds dinner. My dads very fussy about being at the yard on christmas so i try to be done within an hour to keep him happy.

My boys are on Full Livery but only the staff who live there work on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. YO is feeding them, and the man who lives on site is haying and watering them. The two staff who live in are mucking out and it is up to the liveries to do anything else. I do know people who aren't going up tomorrow - but that means their horses won't get out of their stables at all!

I am planning on going up at 9 ish and turning my boys out for a few hours, then going back at 1 ish to bring them in and might ride then too. Then I will go back at 5 or 6 to sort them out for the evening.

Get to yard bright and early, feed, open presents, lots of cuddles, change of rugs and turn out.
Muck out, do hay etc.

Then on the evening bring in, pick out feet, change rugs, fuss as per usual.

Don't normally ride on christmas day.

Our yard never has open/close times so we can do what we want :)

same as normal but won't ride.
God knows how early - little one aged 7 wakes up and opens stocking
8.30 - feed, turn out, muck out
home to have lots of family round inc inlaws, cousins, etc, dad had a stroke in october and is allowed out for his first home visit tomorrow so everyone is coming to me. cooking dinner and opening the rest of the presents during the day. 4pm ish walk up to yard dragging most of the family with me to put horses to bed and feed them and feed them lots of carrots!

same as normal for me too - would normally ride but too poorly this year and have others to look after too. Hopefully will be there for 7.30-8am, chuck out, muck out, go home, open pressies, cook dinner (if we decide to have it lunchtime, wathc films, bring in, feed etc, go home cook dinner (if we dont have it lunchtime) and drink until I pass out (about 7pm!)

All liveries are coming down for 8, we are going to muck the whole yard out, go for a christmas hack, then turnout leaving yard ready just to bring in, we all then have hot baguettes and smoked salmon and cream cheese, everyone then goes for the day.

I go out and get horses in at 5.30 (before Doctor Who) and finish whole yard off, then late check as normal at 11.

Changes every year depending on weather and where he is.

Usually just do as normal but ride for a shorter time though only ridden once on christmas day as he's either been out all the time or its been snowy/icey.

Tomorrow will go down about 9, YO's husband is giving them nets a bit earlier then will turn the four of them out, muck out, do nets and make feed up. The go back about 3.30ish put bed down, bring them in, do rugs, give him his feed then YO's husband will probably hay them about 7ish like normal.

Would ride if it wasn't for the snow and ice though.

Yard done as it would be on a normal day - feed, turnout, muck out, all put ready for late afternoon (was down at usual time of 7am).
Will be down about 4+ to do afternoon bringing in etc.
The only thing that will be omitted today will be pooh picking the paddocks tonight. That will be done tomorrow morning. They'll still get a quick rug-off-brush over-feet-pick-out etc as usual tonight :)

The horses are at home and live out this year but Christmas Day, New Year's day are still normal horsey days. I've checked them already this morning when I was walking the dogs, will look in on them 2-3 times more during the day. I probably won't ride but more because I am pregnant than anything else.
