Am very very impressed, they sent it special delivery even though I only paid standard postage as there was no other option, so hopefully I will be in control on wednesday

Thank you everyone! Tried it today and started with double reins and a cavesson, he was very good to begin with, then had one of his moments and I discovered 2 reins on Jerry is too much to cope with! Took top rein off and he was much better, still yawning in the downwards transitions though and so I thought I may as well try the grackle whilst I was in a experimenting mood.

He had a major strop on the ground once I had put it one, but then seemed to settle so off we went. He was loads better, he still fought it but much less than he did without it, but a bit more extreme if that makes sense.

So seems like we have a good combination for XC, will test it on Wednesday. Going to try the grackle with just his snaffle on Monday when I am in a nice safe enclosed school

Thanks again for all the ideas

You were very lucky to get the bit so quickly, there was a period last year when it seemed noone had a universal NS in stock ... even when ordering direct from NS! I had to give up after a couple of months. Found one on ebay later.
They are nice bits but tend to mark easily so watch out & keep checking it if he is fighting a lot.
Good luck with the bit, you seem to be finding the right buttons to press lately!
