Following on from where are the cobs post!?

I am also finding a lack of genuine cobs.

I have been looking for my mother in law and cant seem to find any nice quite genuine cobs in the West Midlands! Am i looking for something that doesnt exist? They used to be everywhere - nice, quiet, trustworthy cobs at a decent price. Where are you all hiding them!!? :confused:
 
All and any!

Just want something decent in the school but most important above all is safety - must be brill on roads with all sorts inc buses and tractors and safe to canter/gallop across feilds and stop when asked and not spooky, bucky, reary - just a nice, trustworthy cob ish pony/horse.

I keep speaking to people but some I am just not sure that I trust and some say they are one thing in the add then they turn out totally different when we speak to them or get there to try them!

Am at wits end with it! :(
 
ive got one as you described and more but im in devon, not sure if he will come up for sale but i have a court case pending and may need to fund a solicitor. harsh reality of life.
 
The demand for this type seems to have gone up..perhaps riders new to horse ownership are actually learning and listening nowadays instead of just deciding to go out and buy something completely inadequate?! Anyway, this seems to have meant that the price of safe cobs has now gone through the roof and in some instances you can be paying as much as you would for a good competition horse! However, some safe horses out there are priceless to be honest, the experience they give nervous novices is invaluable. I live in the West Midlands area, I'll keep an ear to the ground so to speak :) what sort of price were you thinking?

This is absolutely the "problem" for want of a better word! This sort of horse is what alot of people are rightly looking for, my MIL has been riding for about 3 years at a riding school (not a great one which didnt teach her alot!) then has loaned for 4 years nearly after but a horse that wasnt really suitable and lost her confidence now she realises that this is sort of horse is the right one but as we dont have much of a budget £1900 - £2000 i suppose with tack at absolute tops probably wont get us far!

Any nods in the right direction would be massively appreciated! xxx
 
That is a small budget, tbh if i put my cobby up for sale it would be between 4 and 5k not only is he as safe as, hes also good enough for the top level showing.

i honestly think expecting something safe with tack for 2k is unrelistic, unless your happy with some thing much older. and accept on a vetting it may well fail on something minor.

Oh absolutely, some of the younger ones are gorgeous and worth the money!!! Should have said age isnt really an issue infact would really like something 14 - 16 ish maybe older, its not for hard work just safe hacking and a bit of schooling maybe the odd jump or fun ride nothing major. Older looking for a quieter life is what we need really, a good sane old head on its shoulders! Does that make the udget any better?? :o

They are out there guys don't give up hope!

I found a 14.2 skewbald cob for my 11 yr old daughter last November up in Yorkshire and he is just the best thing since sliced bread! I paid 2.5k for him, but he's worth his weight in gold, an absolute treasure who always comes out with a smile on his face and jumps anything she points him at! He's dead safe on the roads, to handle etc, and has got that twinkle in his eye that all the good cobs have! Just have a little patience...the right one will find you!

Try not to be too picky about looks is my tip, our boy has 2 blue eyes and vaguely resembles a cow, but as I've said before, I don't care if he's purple, as long as he's safe!

Could always loan a good cob - thats how I came across my cobbish lad. He's all I could want. Wins hunter classes all the time, hunts, jumps, dressages as well as an Andalusian, and hacks out on the buckle and looks after his riders and drives too now.

I could buy him but I need to save around the £6500.
 
Thanks for the links peeps, did have a look but MIL doesnt want to travel too far out of the area which narrows the search somewhat.

Tally ho, she is loaning a super horse at the moment but really wants her own, she would buy him but he is 26 and although most age isnt an issue she thinks this is a bit too old.

If anyone spots anymore in Midlands please let me know!! xx
 
they'r out there just got to keep looking picked up a 3 yer old last year and have brought him on a bit he's now showing well just a bit nervous but that will pass with time and training. he's now 4+ and we love him to bit's cost less than 1000. :D only thing is Sasha mothers him.
