Mine was the birth of my foal Basil. He's a special boy as he's my first home bred foal out of my lovely little mare and she lost his full brother the year before during birth. It was an amazing experience to be with him during the birth and help him have his first feed (mum was stroppy and needed to be sedated so he had to have a hand) and to see him grow into a lovely little horse. He's so friendly and sweet tempered and I have great plans for him

So what was your favourite/best experience of 2007?

well CONGRATULATIONS!!!! i must say you have a right stunner there, he's so handsome... you must make sure you post some later pictures of him, would be nice to see how he's growing up

Basil is gorgeous and such a lovely name

My best horsey experience this year was cantering my old boy round his paddock, whilst I was having some photos taken, before he got his woolly bear winter coat typical of a Cushings horse. I had not been able to canter him in two whole years (or dare not as I was so frightened of hurting him), the pictures tell a story .... may post one, as long as no one tells me off for not wearing a hat, as I was only going to sit on him

Safe birth of 2 foalies

Being told that Mia wouldnt last 24 hours after giving birth, got different vet who treated her and she was fine.

Hacking Mae alone

Going to first ever show and getting loads of compliments

Finding the perfect farrier lol

My own best part of the year was finding out i was pregnant, woohoo.

Awwww love the foal

The same as every year

I've had 3 great moments :

The first is the birth of Super's first foal - Bandit (May 07)

The second was winning Supreme Champion at the Wicklow Branch Irish Draught horse society show 2007. Winning her class was fantastic and then the broadmare championship was super fantastic but to go on and win the champion of champions was mind blowing

Ohhh, I have a few:

Getting my fab nag and my lorry on the same weekend

Jumping my first newcomers on Olympic (at the end of last year/beginning of this year I was terrified of jumping, even the most pathetic x-pole reduced me to tears)

Playing my first polocrosse tournament down in kent

I found the horse I bought over 2years ago!
I had a nutcase, speed demon of a horse, but bought him because somewhere I knew he had a brain, this is what I bought in May 05:

Wow! That IS a year! I love your mare - how's she bred. And I can't get over how much your chap looks like one of mine - that great white blaze!! Who is he by?

Oh the foalies are gorgeous!!

My best experience this year was jumping 3' and having no nerves whatsoever (after last year no-one who knew me would believe that!). Also coming 3rd in the local novice championships (sj) was great.

Oh and getting a trailer was cool!

I have 2 main areas I think.

The first is that our jumping has clicked into place. Only started last year and in March we could hardly get round a 2ft course without major dramatics.
Now we are doing 2'9 and starting to get placed
laugh.gif

Also completed our first ODE and got a 4th.

The other main achievement is that April and I have finally bonded fully. She didn't trust me or anyone else for a long time but now she comes running straight over when I call her rather than slinking off in the other direction and it's just so rewarding

without a shadow of a doubt getting my first horse after waiting and dreaming for 30 years, and then of course realising I'd got a one in a million!

George just after I got him:

And of course the walk /trot test a couple of weeks ago:

I can't believe how lucky I am, and what an absolute gem I found on my doorstep!
smile.gif

Going over to Ireland to try lots of horses and then finding Iggy
grin.gif

I feel safer on my green 5 yr old than on any other horse I've ever ridden - he is a star and I am already getting my confidence back.

Also he is the first horse I have ever bought myself (last one was bought by my parents, then I had one on loan)

Taking Pip to his first ridden dressage. I felt so proud of him, I broke him without any help and then being complimented in public was beyond my widest dreams.
All my National results were crazy too, but riuding Pip was special.

Like you mine was getting my gorgeous Ronnie. After several years of saving I finally got there! I love him to bits, here's a picture from the day I tried him out.

Wow some great stories and pics
smile.gif
, cheered me up as I was feeling a bit depressed after the worst experience post, I realised what a bad year I've had, Basil was the one highlight.
Keep 'em coming
smile.gif

We have had some great times this year
laugh.gif
.I think this has been the best so far (even though I've fallen off more this year than any other!). We did our first dressage test (50% or so, not bad
tongue.gif
), did several RC jumping and flatwork clinics, got our first double clear (of which there are many more to come
tongue.gif
) and went to RC camp, which, although he was a little sod the first day, the second he proved what a truely special chap he is.
After our first dressage test (I adore this pic

This has been a great year for me:

Playing polo for Harvard
Working for Michael Matz (Barbaro's trainer, Olympic showjumping medalist) in both Florida and Saratoga.
Spending a week at Three Chimneys - were Dynaformer and Smarty Jones stand.
Of course many lovely nights in Boston with my friend Nugget!

Thanks, Super C D is by Cream of Diamonds out of Gramaphone (Pride of Toames). Bandit is by Huntingfield Rebel

I'd love to see a picture of your guy

I think the blaze comes from the King of Diamonds line

probably doing my first ever ODE and coming 6th and seeing skyes dressage come on. when i first got her in august 06 she couldnt balance in trot and was like a giraffe. now we have outline and she wants to work whereas before she resisted like anything. last dressage test we did we got 62% and 5th place!

this is a pic of us after the dressage in our ODE (please ignore the gloves i managed to forget mine!)

woo002.jpg

oh and silly little things like being able to hose her off and get on her without faffing around for 10 minutes and getting someone to hold her etc

Mine, perversley, was falling off Polly at the Stockland Lovell hunter trials. She slipped over coming round a tight turn and we both sat down on the ground.

I hadn't come off since a serious accident last year which totally wrecked my confidence for months but in the adrenaline fueled heat of the moment, I begged the fence judge to let me continue, she said yes and I remounted and finished the course. Was so glad to finally get the first fall over and done with, and I remounted to have a perfect rest of our round. It was the ideal 'first post accident' fall cos I was so excited to be hunter trialing I forgot to fret about my back and feel scared.

Either that or it was finding out I passed my BHS stage 2 in september. I cried on the phone to my mum a little bit.
