Following on with the KP posts

A lot of people say that if they had her money they would do what she does, as regards the horse world at least. I wouldn't though because I genuinely wouldn't enjoy it.Wouldn't enjoy even trying to ride those very high powered horses.I might biuy some for a favourite rider to compete but not for myself.I would buy a lovely house and yard, one or two lovely hacks, driving ponies, maybe a western horse and a low key fun dressage horse and pay some really good staff.What would you do?

I would buy my own place and a 2nd horse that I could take jumping and maybe a little xc if I was brave enough.

I might buy a horse for someone else to show/compete with.

Same as you two, wouldnt want to ride anything out of my league but enjoy the money Id like a couple of my own that I can love!

I do as she has no two ways about it. To afford to buy, keep and then have the training on horses of that kallibre (sp) is a dream come true for me.

However I would also like my own yard etc etc

I haven't got the bottle to compete, I'd be too nervous to enjoy it! Just pottering about is enough for me - love to spectate at events tho.

I adore competing, completely. But I love the training at home more. I get nerves too but I am trying to tame them!

i agree,and have always said KP would have been much better liked and served as an owner.
The simple reason we dont all make it to the top is because most of us are not good enough-and no matter how much top quality training we were given would never be,but hey,thats sport

I personaly only ever feel unsafe on a horse that is too good for me and see no joy comming from it,but a cracking proper schoolmaster from choosen disipline would be top of most people's "when I win the lottery" shopping lise

Why? She can afford to keep them well (which is a lot more than can be said for other horse), they are looked after and she has regular training.

I don't mean that they aren't looked after, far from it
Just that IMO if I were one of her horses I would prefer to have a competent rider who knows how to use aids correctly taking me to parties rather than KP bumping about on my back and hauling at my mouth

Sorry I am not picking but interested as to why you feel they are wasted with her.

Have you seen her ride? From seeing her she does not bump around, hauling them about.

From what I have seen of her riding,she is not going to be the next anyone but is not a bad rider.More a pretty average novice.
While some horses certanly adore being in the ring,they are not an animal that will sit at home crying over missed chances.
If a horse has food and friends he is happy

I would either give my current yard a complete make over and add facilities or buy somewhere else with exsisting facilities.
I would invest in very regular lessons from good instructors and would like to have at least one school master ex-eventer that could help me improve my riding but I would keep my current horses and would still buy ones that are at the cheaper end of the market to bring on and reschool myself rather than buying expensive top horses that need little work on them or are out of my league.

id just love a house in the country with a couple of stables and a field and two horses, a dog and a nice man!

I rode my friend's high powered warmblood, once. Having done that and nearly sh*tting myself (and we only trotted a bit!), I'm quite happy to leave this type of horse to the more capable, lol!

I would buy the yard and maybe sublet to a competitor and possibly have them compete my high powered horse (am fine with them on the ground, but have spent far too many years riding ponies and wide cobs!). She can keep that pink box, though. I passed it the other week and was nearly blinded!

i'd probably try to buy my way to success if i'm totally honest- i do think that as a general rule you can buy a good horse and pay for regular and high quality training and you are going to achieve more than if you have a really cheap horse and no training- but i do think that you still have to work and put the time and effort in... i would probs also buy a REALLY nice horse for a professional to compete on.... with regards to her riding, she's definitely no 2012 potential but i actually think that she rides very nicely...
