food bank collection

Hi my yard is having a collection for our local food bank to help less fortunate people who are really struggling in the winter ,we are collecting tinned and dried food that the food bank have said they need most of.
just a thought really because im very surprised and pleased that just 6 of us collected 2 large boxes of foodstuff,!
if we all did this by just giving a spare tin etc im sure we could all do wonders for the old and less fortunate this winter

Well done.
I had a tour of our local food bank last week, they do a really good job. I was under the impression that the food was given out as a supplement to benefits but I was wrong. Only people who are having a crisis can get a handout. They generally get a voucher from the doctor, social services or schools and then have an interview to ensure they're getting all the available help to sort out their problems. Even then they can only visit 5 times in any rolling 12 month period.
