Hi everyone. Just after a little advice really, I have had my JRT pup for two weeks now (she is 8 weeks this week) and just wanted to discuss her feed and feeding. Just so you know this is my first dog so I'm not up on the food varieties as I would be if it were a horse !!!!

She is meant to have 4 meals a day but she has a few mouthfuls and then goes and plays etc so she has two really, which she munches through the day - is this right/wrong ?

She is getting tescos puppy meat (tinned) and pedegree chum chicken and rice dry food , and also a fresh small bowl of goats milk next to her water. She is'nt mad on her biscuits and picks all the meat out and eats the biscuits last. I have tried soaking with a little warm water but she prefers the meat. Like I say I dont know all the dog food brands so need your guy's knowledge to create a suitable and palatable diet. Regards R x

My pup is still on 4 meals a day he is having:

1/4 pack Naturediet puppy food (wet) & small amount James Wellbeloved biscuits. The we are adding about a tablespoon of olive oil to his food over the day (so a little bit in each meal).

When we first got him (nearly 3 weeks ago) he wasn't really eating his biscuits - but he has really picked up since changing to the above - and is putting on some weight now.

we have also given him the occasional tin of sardines in oil and the occasional raw egg.

Think you need to find something he likes - they can be fussy (an ours is a lab!)...

I wouldn't suggest you leave the food out all day - leave it for 15-20 mins and then take it away if she is not eating it.

I wouldn't feed Pedigree chum as it's full of additives and
nasty's. If she's keener on meat try her on Naturediet. It's
readily available in most pet shops. She does need 4 meals a
day until she's about 12 weeks then you can cut it down to 3.
Good luck with her.

Puppy Naturediet and James Wellbeloved puppy kibble. Try to avoid food with wheat in it until she is about six months old; it can lead to allergies in later life if fed too young. It is normal for dogs to eat very little at a time, if you are concerned leave some kibble down as ad-lib feed during the day. And post some pictures!

yep - I'd go with Naturediet and/or James Wellbeloved - both ecellent foods - if she's inclined to be fussy then stick with the Naturediet - all dogs seem keen on this

Mine is 5 months old JRT he has been on James welbeloved kibble and nature diet since i had him at 8 weeks (he refused to eat butchers or pedigree chum with mixer which breeder recommended)... he was very picky with kibble but now he loves it...

When ours was that age it was getting one sachet of meat per day, half monring and half evening which they love (except the lamb flavour one in our case, wish you could buy the flavours individually) They are "Pedigree Pouch Puppy 150g Variety 8 Pack"
She had ad lib puppy mixer biscuits in her other bowl all the time also. "Pedigree Complete Puppy 10kg"
Do not worry if they do not eat everything all the time they are small dogs and do not have huge appetites, the food above was recommended by our vet for the last one we had.
She gets a tiny wee treat every time she goes outside and comes back in to train them to come back and not run off. Very small doggie chocolate buttons.
She was getting ad lib regular milk at that stage too.
Our one is now older and just eats as and when it feels like it but looks fine, check her out on the website
