my horse has been getting a tad exciteable out hacking lately. he is normally, but this is more so. we saw 2 horses out yesterday and he pranced the entire way home with foamy sweat dripping from him.

anyhow, question is....(he only gets a small amount of happy hoof). he has discovered that where one of the other horses gets fed, there is usually some left on the ground. i've found him here clearing up a few times. he can only be getting a tiny bit, but on a daily basis. (till now anyway, coz i've stopped him doing it) i dont know what the other horse gets fed, but he is a big tb who struggles to keep weight on. it looks like mix/nuts. could this be making my horse a nut even tho its only a small amount?

Yes even a bit of feed that your horse is intolerant of can have that effect, my mare can go bonkers if she gets a little bit of alfalfa, she just cannot tolerate it all

it might be but i think it would take more of the feed to have much effect. If he's grazing, i think its more likely to be the grass, its very rich at the moment and full of sugars.

My mare goes nuts if she has even a small amount of the wrong feed - and by small I mean approx a handful. I can suss out a suitable feed for her in three days
