Hi, i am wondering if anyone knows anything good that i can give my pony to make her slightly buzzier or more forward? Can be feed or something to put in her feed. When i first got her she was super buzzy and now has completely calmed down which is good but she has become lazier than we would have liked her too! Just want somehting to completely perk her up! (We compete almost every weekend in SJ and she is work alot in the week).
Thanks xx

Unfortunately your not going to find a quick fix by extra feed to make her more buzzy, some horses its just not in their nature. However you could try NAF energy I have used it with my Irish Draught and found that it helped with his energy levels out on long hacks, however it never made him "buzzy". Also ensure she is as fit as possible, the fitter they are the more energetic they will feel. As for lazier, that sounds like a schooling issue, she has to be off your leg, if she doesn't move away from your leg the first time, back your leg up with a tap with your schooling whip and do lots of transitions to get her listening to you, there is never an excuse for a lazy horse

I fear you may struggle. The wrong feed may make a sensitive horse worse but I've yet to find one that winds up a laid back one. We fed my share horse pure oats in the hope of a bit of buzz....nothing. He was 5 at the time. He's now 21 and he hasn't changed a bit. He did get a bit excited on a hack the other day and even jogged for about 20m but soon realised it was too much like hard work.

Apparently, as a foal he, his mum and his big sister lived in a field with access to stable. He'd sleep in a sunny spot in the doorway of the stables and his mum, sister and breeder would all have to climb over him to get in and out of the stable as there was no way he was moving. Sums him up.

Are you looking to perk her up at competing or something for schooling, hacking all the time.Topspec turbo can help give an instant lift for competing . It's basically like giving them a sugar rush so give a few handfuls when needed. For something to feed more regularly, you could try straight oats or a competition balancer. Baileys competition balancer worked well on one horse I know. Be careful though, you don't want to send her unmanageable.

Working on fitness is the best way to improve the buzz. It depends a little on the type of horse, current workload and current food - but I would hesitate to try to get a quick fix with food. It's a bit like us using chocolate or coffee as a pick me up - its great at the time but no necessarily the best way to go about it!
