...who has purchased a laser thermometer, which is really clever. It sends out a tiny dot of light so can measure different temperatures with in the foot. He managed to identify exactly where the heat was in my horse's foot, and deal with the bruised and inflamed bit.

I always said he was the best farrier I had ever had to my horses, I am even more impressed now

He said he has seen more foot abcesses this year than at any other time, which he puts down to the wet ground conditions..apparently all the other farriers he knows have laughed at him for spending quite a lot of money on this...I think he will have the last laugh though

Cool piece of kit indeed.
Last year winston had 4 or 5 foot absess - drove me to distraction. Before that it had been years since any of my horses had suffered.
Yep wet conditions def wont help. How is pony now?

Farrier opened it up and we had to keep him in for a couple of days (and use eucalyptus oil of course - farrier was 100% in favour of that). He is now riding sound and will go out today, though I will keep an eye on it.

happy owner and much more comfortable horse

My farrier has one of those too! Fab aren't they. Apparently they were first developed for use by Formula 1 racing teams. Very very useful bit of kit.

Wow you do have a superb farrier! We've had several foot abcesses this year too - ended up with a huge hole in Joe's foot following the tracks to let the pus out - would have been much easier with that bit of kit!
