Foot abscess- how long do they take to drain??

My poor pony is very lame with a foot abscess. It took 3 days to first burst and I have hot poulticed it twice a day for over a week. It seems to have burst around the frog in both clefts. There is discharge on the poultice each time but the problem is the poor pony is still very lame and the pus keeps coming. Each day I expect her to be better! She is on antibiotics and painkillers.
Any other tips?? or any idea how long it could draw for. I am surprised by the amount of pus in it!

it sounds to me like your pony might have an under-run sole. I would get the vet out as he might need some anti-biotics as well. it really is just a more advanced stage of abcess but it will take a while.
