Sorry to be a pain I am on the slowest connection known to man at the mo and can't read through all the replies. Basically I am due to go to Sparsholt College tomorrow early for a 2 day comp. Does the transport ban include horses? Also I understand the implications with an agricultural college. Help.

horses can be moved

you'd best ring sparsholt - they may shut down movements to protect their animals

I've got similar worry as livery is due to goto PC camp at merrist next week and that is inside the zone and also has agricultural animals

Can you call them? They might have rigged up an answerphone

Sparsholt's got a herd of Dairy cows, plus a large number of sheep and pigs.

Which is probably not what you want to hear. Ring them first thing tomorrow morning?

Hi

We have children at pony club camp at Merrist Wood due to leave there tomorrow, coming back to Hertfordshire and we have cattle and sheep on our yard.

What should we do ???

Until you know more about how far it might have spread, I wouldn't risk it

Hi Sorry maybe didnt word that right,

They are at Merrist wood now, coming home tomorrow.

we have cattle and sheep where they are coming back to???

If they must come back then I guess all the bio-hazard stuff, plus keep the ponies in. A tip from last time to avoid burning wet straw is to put old carpet in your gate way and spray with disinfectant two or three times a day and every time a vehicle passes over it.

Oh god I'm meant to be going to Hickstead next week, I live on a 300dairy herd farm, not really wise to move anything about thats going back onto the place is it?

I did think of you Rosie when I heard about this

You'll just have to see how bad this outbreak is, but at the moment no it won't be wise. And thats even if its not cancelled. But like I said wait and see, hopefully they've caught it early.

You can move horses BUT I really will be VERY surprised if the college don't cancel, sorry. The Warwcikshire College absolutely panicked last time and no one, not even the students, could get on campus.

"Nationally no animal movements are allowed except under licence, controls are in place on movement of animal carcasses, animal gatherings, shearing and dipping are restricted"
Defra

That is animal movement of all cloven animals, not horses... but would be unwise to move horses just yet until we have further details from DEFRA.

sky news (8.15am sat)just had a man on from an equestrain centre on who is in the 3km area and he saud that he has been told he can not move horses at all.

if i remeber rightly horses can carry the disease so if you are near an outbreak then horses cant be moved as they pass it onto where they go which may have livestock
