Have replied to this in the news bit.....as I'm in Guildford and only round the corner from Pirbright....so no hacking for us by the looks of it.......we will be stuck in,just upsets me that this repeats it's self again...did nobody learn a lesson last time and in a age when there is so much that could prevent this!

Well BBC news 24 is covering it big style, all the cows at the farm in Guildford have been culled. There is a 3KM protection zone around the farm and it has been declared confirmed by DEFRA. Symptons reported yesterday. 10k suveillance Zone around premises. No animal movements except by licence and all farms improve their bio security

Oh no! I hope that this can be contained, I would hate to see the damage this would cause to an already weak farming market

Can I ask a really thick question please

are we still allowed to hack out if there is a ban on animal movement?

I didn't have Cropi during the last outbreak

This is seriously bad news, fingers crossed its an isolated case

The order says 'all ruminats' which I believe is sheep, goats, pigs and cattle. Am trying to find clarification re horses and donks.

OMG thats terrible. During the last outbreak we werent allowed to hack out, mainly to prevent bringing anything back to the farm as he had cattle. Some people on another yard did hack out but they were frowned upon. I dont think there was any law stopping horses but I could be wrong.

Last time we needed licenses to move horses, either in or out. Not sure what the situation is now though.

They can be carriers though so it would seem good mannered not to move them/hack out etc. depending on where you are

God not again. I don't suppose many people think of this, but last time it happened I was doing some training with the RAF, and it really mucked up a lot of the army training areas. Fingers crossed for all farmers and anyone else affected it clears up soon.

during the last outbreak i still hacked out as normal once the rules on hrose movements were clarified. obviously not those who keep their horses on farms, but everyone else is fine. we still went to shows and just hosed off wheels with disinfectant - it wss my first year with my horse and we were out every fortnight - probably did more that year than i have since!
